HUNTINGTON — There’s a reason Marshall’s defense — and even the quarterback — wanted to wear No. 31 last year. There’s a reason they wanted to pay special tribute to linebacker Evan McKelvey, and it became more apparent than ever last weekend. With each week, McKelvey is becoming more and more a special defender. If you didn’t know it, he teammates will eagerly tell you.“McKelvey for Heisman! McKelvey for Heisman!” exclaimed D.J. Hunter, fellow linebacker and McKelvey’s roommate. “I don’t know how that’s going to work, but it’s possible.”Maybe it isn’t, but McKelvey had one of those award-winning games last weekend at Kent State. He had 18 tackles, nine solo, with two tackles for a loss and an important fumble recovery. The Thundering Herd needed every play the senior could muster in its 36-29 victory over the upset-minded Golden Flashes.
