There was no pressure. The game was not on the line or even in doubt.

In fact, Marshall was leading FIU 35-0 in a game that was never close.

Still, when Nick Smith trotted onto the field for a 35-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the first half, 26,000 people were holding their breath.

"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity; they seem more afraid of life than of death"  – James F. Byrnes

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

  • He got a good reaction from the crowd too. Redemption in any [positive] form is a great thing.

After seeing Smith hurting in tears a week ago, our fan section gave him a standing ovation. The way we cheered, you would have thought we just won a championship.

It was cool. I had even told my game bud if he makes this the crowd is going to go nuts and sure enough.
Hope he has his head back in it.

  • I agree with the Doc observation.

I agree with the fans in the stands observation.

But it seems no one is pointing out the reaction in between the two. Smith was absolutely mobbed by his team mates on the field and off the field. Coach's reaction was great, but it was delayed by the players getting to Smith first.

In the past others have posted that this year's Herd is truly a team. I think we saw that in the reaction to Smith's FG.

  • Coach Holliday (for all his game-management flaws) recognizes that the overall program is bigger than one game where one player had a really bad day at the office. All of us have had horrible days at work. For most of us, our bad days are not in front of large audiences.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

  • How cool would it be if Smith kicked the game winning FG versus WKU?

I don't even want it to be that close. I want us to go in there and dominate from start to finish
