  • Wish we could go back to playing those powerhouse teams like EMU, CMU, BSU, Akron, Kent, Buffalo etc..those were the days when the MAC really meant something...............they were so much better than CUSA. LOLOLOLOL.

Actually the MAC back then was better than this version of CUSA.  Actually I would say the Southern Conference when we were in it was about like this version of CUSA. SC may have been a little worse. That's my honest opinion. Appy St, Furman could have competed with most of these teams in CUSA this year.

  • Our choices were obviously based on Huntington, WV vs. our success on the field. So Miss made a lot of noise in the "Rock" over time but they are now in the same situation as as we are.

  • Pretty certain the good old MAC teams of WMU, Miami, Ohio, BG, N.ILL, and Toledodump would be top teams in this CUSA.  If going undefeated with our current schedule would land in a BCS for sure, some past Herd and MAC teams would be playing.  N.Ill and WMU have already done it.  I believe this is a good team that could be a Top 10-15 team.

  • Let's be honest about the MAC. It was a pretty bad conference when we joined. They were a bunch of wanna be Big 10 teams who ran 3 yards and a cloud of dust offenses. Most of the crowds were pretty sparse. You'd go to places like Athens, Ohio and see more red Ohio State shirts in the crowd than Bobcat attire.

But you know what happened? We came in and changed the attitude and philosophy of that conference. A lot of those teams couldn't stand losing to us and they changed the way they played. Teams like Bowling Green started running the spread and finally evolving a bit. Why? They didn't want to lose.

I can't say that I see anything similar in this awful conference we find ourselves in now. It's a bunch of new teams that have no tradition and just want to be in something considered to be a 1A conference probably so they can pitch that to get more enrollment. The tv contract absolutely sucks (at least we had ESPN on our side in the MAC). It seems like it's run by idiots at times. Remember the whole Rice championship home game debacle?

I was 100% on board with leaving the MAC when we did. The teams were better at the time and it seemed like a smart move. Now that most of them have left us in the dust it looks pretty bad. It feels like the program is rotting on the vine and even when we win games it's not real satisfying.
