It appears we now have one more fan to root the HERD on thanks to Chris Russo, & a fantastic interview.
Shortly after I moved to the NYC area in 1987 and after WNBC-AM radio became WFAN, Chris Russo partnered with another NY-area broadcaster, Mike Francesa to do a show on the new the all-sports radio network called, "Mike and the Mad Dog". It was an exceptionally lively, often-heated sports show - especially between the hosts - that featured call-ins by crazy-rabid sports fans in the New York area. Execs at first thought the show could never fly... but it did, and it changed the way radio covered sports, especially call-in shows. They are even featured in one of ESPN's "30 for 30" segments.
Every so often, I could hear them mention something about Marshall football... but I never heard anything about Marshall basketball from them. Now that Mike and Chris are solo, Chris is doing very well on his own Sirius Xm show... and someone should call in to mention all of the past northern NJ connections of Marshall football, the Billy Crystal connection to Marshall, etc., more on the Marshall connections to the NIT in the Garden... Russo would eat this stuff up being a NY-area loyalist.
Great interview with Dan by Chris, very enjoyable to hear Russo get so enthused about Marshall. If this had happened during the "Mike and the Mad Dog" years, it would have been fabulous free publicity for the school and sports programs.
