My understanding is Chuck wanted to retire close to that area and has relatives there....which are primary reasons he took job. I think he increased his pay too.
Nobody should be surprised about the hazing, belittling, and even physical things that go on at a lot of schools. It may not be what it was even 10yrs ago but it happens. The amount of money coaches make/pressure to win adds to it in some cases. On other hand I think it is harder to be a coach at all levels due to parents, spoiled and oversensitive kids, video that is often out of context etc. One thing I learned firsthand and from many coaches at different levels is kids that you have to baby or use extreme tactics to motivate rarely work out for anybody....the time and aggravation are usually not worth it if player won't meet you halfway. If sitting on bench doesn't motivate someone that nothing will.
I know we've given Doc grief about running many kids off but very few have amounted to anything football wise elsewhere. It ultimately goes back to recruiting but any 17-19 yr old is going to come with uncertainties.
