Michael Payton believes he knows why Randy Moss didn't mention Marshall University during his recent Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement speech.

It's because he feels former Marshall football players feel snubbed by their alma mater.

"I don't feel it," said Payton pointedly, "I mean, that's the facts."

What were the Bob Marcum years?

  • What a completely unnecessary and outdated article that makes everyone involved look bad.

  • Chuck having to remind us what a total not so smart he is.

Couple of things, they think Marshall should give free tickets to every former player who wants tickets? If not every single former player then what is the criteria? He also said Marshall Reynolds always has room for him in his box so once again, sounds like he is being taken care of.

I agree that Marshall should try to do something once a year for all former players. Not worth complaining about that they don't, but I'm sure it would go a long ways towards this very thought process. Possibly a cookout/tailgate before the game, and a couple tickets as long as they were reserved before hand, etc.

It's not like we are selling out every single game. We could easily do this for one game per year.

Or we could have a tailgate for all former players before every home game LIKE WE DO NOW.

  • What are Marshall's requirements to have your number retired? Do you have to graduate?

  • Here's a list - in no particular order - of Marshall football greats.  We can't go around retiring every number though...

I withhold what I'm really thinking, but I don't think the Marshall athletic deparment comes off in the worst light with this artcle...

Who made that banner? Can they explain how Cato was the conference player of the year four times?

You left Carl Lee off that list. Carl Lee played 12 years in the NFL, starting in 152 games. In his NFL career Carl Lee made 803 tackles, had 31 interceptions including 2 pick sixes, and recovered 7 fumbles. Played in 3 pro bowls. First team All-Pro in 1988.

  • What is the "M" Club, if not for the association and inclusion of our heritage players?

I'm sure many of the heritage players support the Herd with their dollars and sense; others apparently don't.

    2018 M Club tailgate pavilion
Join other former student-athletes at the M Club tailgate for 6 pre-game tailgates at the M club Pavilion.  Mix and mingle with S/A from all eras before every home football game.  Each Tailgate includes bee, soda & water.  Dont forget about the pizza and hot dogs, alongside other various food options provided by different vendors through out the season.  If you are an M club member you are granted free admission into every home tailgate and guest are only $5!
It cost $60 per year to be an M club member.
I mean really?  What more could you ask??

Exactly my point. Three but not four like the banner claims. Is that a university made graphic?

Don’t think that is a Marshall produced graphic. Looks like a homemade one IMO. I also just noticed the Cato part has been corrected to 3.

I made the graphic.  I’ve also just quickly made a basketball one, too, since it’s basketball season in the Bahamas and all... I haven’t worked to colorize the Cam photo yet.

Wasn't trying to be critical of you. I assumed it was a university or media produced banner. You've done a nice job with them.

I knew that question was coming!  And he’s my answer...

Why would someone that was not a Marshall fan in the 1980s or 90s have a reason to know about them?  They weren’t All-Americans or college HOF’ers.  They didn’t have notable pro careers.  They hold no NCAA records nor had a statistical best year in something?

My image is already so long, who comes off this list to make room for Taft and Henderson?

  • I would take off Whitesides and Williams.  They were not here long enough to be Sons of Marshall in my book.  I would fill in one of those spots with George Stone and the other with John Taft.

  • I do not know for a fact how former players have been treated. It is evident there is some truth to the matter. What I do know is as fans this is not how we feel or would treat these former players. We are very supportive and appreciate all of the accomplishments they achieved at Marshall. It is a shame that one or two individuals have managed to turn off some of our greatest achievers. Hopefully our athletic department is working hard to repair and rebuild those relationships.
