Topic: I ran into Ron Jirsa tonight

He was at a Pulaski Yankees game.  Had kind things to say about his time at Marshall and told me the fountain ceremony was the most emotional thing he has been a part of in athletics. Currently an assistant at Radford.

I’m assuming you meant Ron Jirsa. No matter what you think about Jirsa, he did take down wvu back to back years. Pretty sure they were Top 25 both times. Totally crazy.

And yes, all reports have him as a very good guy. Attended one of the Atlanta area alumni gatherings featuring him.

Never had success as a head coach, either at MU or at Georgia.  A pretty good career assistant, however, IMO.  Was with Tubby Smith at a few stops, I believe, including UK.  Glad he had good things to say about MU even if his tenure here didn't go as he, and we, would have liked.

Always thought Jirsa could put together a good gameplan. His recruiting was lacking, however.

He beat wvu twice and we gave a loaded Memphis team a game the first time we played them in a C-USA match up. I remember Coach Cal crediting Jirsa for putting together a gameplan to counteract Memphis' press.
