  • Margin of victory is about the same as ours.

We won by 14 and they won by 15. GC usually has a solid team under dan marjle (sp). They won 22 last year i think. We can be very good, but we have some things that have to come together for the type of team we are all expecting. Definately not there yet. Hopefully danny can work his majic.

Oh yeah, GC must be a perennial power to beat our MOV. Lol. Our team will be fine, those games are meaningless as far as asceetaining how the season will go.

  • We coulda won by 30 against the Storm if we wanted to. In my not-so-humble opinion anyways.

  • Remember, we played, and lost to, GC a couple seasons or so in a tourney out west the night after we beat Wyoming.  Neither team could stop James Kelly, IIRC.

Yeah, their coach, Majerle, a former Marquette and Phoenix Suns star, I believe, has a pretty good program going.  Apparently, GC is a school growing by leaps and bounds.  Must have a lot of on line students, although from their TV ads, which are constantly on cable networks, it looks like they have a modern and pretty nice looking campus.

Must be nice to have a lot of $$$$$$ to spend on buildings, sports facilities, etc.  Which, of course, we know that MU doesn't have, and never has had.

  • I think Grand Canyon's coach is Dan Majerle(played at Central Michigan) during the mid 80's when Huck's Herd was thundering up and down the court. Don't remember which NBA team drafted him but  a couple of the pro scouts said he shrunk  because I'm pretty sure CMU always listed him at 6-8 and the pros had him at 6-6 or 6-5 1/2. Anyway he played big averaging in 20s points per game and big time rebounder, think he was MAC player of year. He was the 80s version of Wally World(can't spell his last name); the Miami of Ohio forward that gave Greg White, J.R. Vanhoose and etc. plus most college teams nightmares.

I was in Las Vegas for that tournament. That GC game was one we should have won. I can't remember all the details. As was mentioned we had beaten Wyoming earlier. Houston was the 4th team there.

Until earlier this year Grand Canyon was the nation's only D-1 "for profit" basketball school.  Basically they had no money, couldn't pay their debt, etc.  Some investors came in and bought the debt and needed to be repaid.  The school went for profit to pay them back.  There was an old ESPN (I assume) article about them awhile back which was very interesting.  While trying to find that article I found that they have recently become a non-profit again, at least sort-of.  The for-profit side of things will receive 60% of tuition in exchange for various services.  Here is that article.... (still didn't find the basketball/sports related one)

  • In that game against GC jon elmore was 0-10 from the floor. We lost 85-81. Loop had 20 and kelly and browning both had 17.

"Mailman" Malone of LA Tech was one that stood out to me, CoachSkip.

And yogiherd is right, Majerle played at CMU, not Marquette.
