A lot of the stuff on here is not fair to Iran either way.
He has good hands, a soft shooting touch, and above average footwork for a big guy. His second jump is surprisingly quick, revealing ++ athletic ability for his size. His conditioning is improving but not yet where it ultimately needs to be. He may have some ups and downs early, but I believe he will start and contribute to the team throughout the year.
But if fans are expecting to see Darryl Dawkins, James Kelly, or an All-American right out of the gate, they will inevitably be disappointed. Iran will steadily improve under Coach D'Antoni's tutelage. I can tell you that Danny is really excited about what he sees in Iran, and if Iran was a stock, Danny would be buying.
If you want comps to think about for the type of game he will play, think more about guys like Jared Sullinger, Carlos Boozer, or Big Baby Davis. I am not saying he is already as good as those NBA guys, but his style of play will remind you of them.
On a college level, think about the big freshman at Loyola-Chicago last year, Cameron Krutwig, who averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds on a Final Four team. Krutwig was not a big shot blocker (less than a block per game), but was a big body that clogged up the lane. Loyola was not as good whan he was out of the game. If Iran can progress and give us that kind of production this season, especially to the point where he is playing really well in March (a la Darius George and Jannson Williams last year), that would be a huge shot in the arm for Marshall.
I can't wait to embark on this 5-month journey with the Herd starting on Sunday afternoon.
