  • What Herdorbust was saying about Iran yesterday is correct. I was there as well. He made some BIG tine moves around the basket. His hands are so soft and he has amazing footwork

  • Big time around the basket for a guy his size is catching the ball, taking one step, and putting his balls in someones face while dunking it on their ass.

  • How much weight has George put on?
Not a lot. He is still pretty small. Most of our guys are undersized. A ohysical opponent will.be difficult if refs let them play.

That's EXACTLY what I would like to see. I'm afraid that when we start playing real competition that those little layup are going to get swatted into the 17th row. I'd like to see him play like a Daryl Dawkins kinda game. If some of you young'uns don't know who that is, look him up.....Chocolate Thunder, lol. He was a FORCE in the paint. Right now, he's looking more like a moses malone....which is good, but give me some thunder !!!!

Chocolate Thunder was a bad ass dude! (he is the reason for the breakaway rims that basketball now have), because of his thunderous slams that broke backboards. The NBA was so afraid of someone getting hurt that they told CT to take it easy when he dunked, that is true!

  • Guys Iran dunks all the time and when he does, he usually tries to bring the basket support down. But what i'm talking about wasn't a dunk situation. He was running thu the side of the lane at full speed and caught a bounce pass in traffic and laid it off the window from a very difficult angle. I about came out of my seat seeing a guy that size make that type of play. You would have had to be there. And he goes up so strong, it's almost impossible to stop him down there. He is really coming on and getting a ton of confidence. He simply gives us a weapon that we may NEVER have had here. If he ever gets his weight down in the 300-310 range in a year or so, we are going to have an all-American on our hands. Yes I said it!!!!! He can be that good.

Was there defense being played in any of those situations? I've only been to a couple practices early on and watched all of the Bahamas games. I've never seen Iran dunk once in a game or scrimmage situation. He was actually unable to jump high enough to dunk a perfect oop from Elmore in the Bahamas right in front of the rim.

On defense he was zero threat. Guys like CJ Burks can just jump right over top of him and take it to the hole for an easy layup.

Has he improved that much or is all of what you saw outside of a scrimmage situation (no defense). Yes he dunks hard warming up, when there is no defense.

Look forward to seeing him in a game situation again to see how much, if any, he has improved.

I can shoot like Reggie Miller with no defense in front of me. But play a little defense on me and I can't do sh!t. haha BIG difference between dunking/shooting around in warm ups (and even the drills they do) and actually being in a game/scrimmage situation.

You think Iran can’t dunk lol. Look up highlights he could do it with ease in high school.

When have you seen Iran dunk in college with a defense in front of him? Again, not talking about warm ups or drills...but games (Bahamas...zero dunks over 3 games) and scrimmages.

I agree 100% - everyone is impressed with his size, which they should be. IB didn't do anything worth talking about against really bad competition in the Bahamas. I look forward to this weekend to watch the exhibition game and see how it does against competition.

  • A lot of the stuff on here is not fair to Iran either way.

He has good hands, a soft shooting touch, and above average footwork for a big guy. His second jump is surprisingly quick, revealing ++ athletic ability for his size. His conditioning is improving but not yet where it ultimately needs to be. He may have some ups and downs early, but I believe he will start and contribute to the team throughout the year.

But if fans are expecting to see Darryl Dawkins, James Kelly, or an All-American right out of the gate, they will inevitably be disappointed. Iran will steadily improve under Coach D'Antoni's tutelage. I can tell you that Danny is really excited about what he sees in Iran, and if Iran was a stock, Danny would be buying.

If you want comps to think about for the type of game he will play, think more about guys like Jared Sullinger, Carlos Boozer, or Big Baby Davis. I am not saying he is already as good as those NBA guys, but his style of play will remind you of them.

On a college level, think about the big freshman at Loyola-Chicago last year, Cameron Krutwig, who averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds on a Final Four team. Krutwig was not a big shot blocker (less than a block per game), but was a big body that clogged up the lane. Loyola was not as good whan he was out of the game. If Iran can progress and give us that kind of production this season, especially to the point where he is playing really well in March (a la Darius George and Jannson Williams last year), that would be a huge shot in the arm for Marshall.

I can't wait to embark on this 5-month journey with the Herd starting on Sunday afternoon.

Exactly. His development will be the key to him getting to a level where people will remember him outside of Marshall. There have been too many that has come in here with high expectations and underperformed for whatever reason.

Totally agree. He's got a huge upside, but will take time to develop and get used to the speed of the college game. He's just a freshman. By some of these reports people are making him out to be Zion Williamson...and though he can be one day, he's not. If he was, he wouldn't be here...he'd be at well...a school like Duke. ZW is 285...I really think that is where Iran needs to be...maybe 295 as IB is taller.

I said it from the start and I'm hearing some others repeat it...people will be surprised with how good IB shoots the 3. We need to give the kid time to develop. If you are expecting beast mode out of IB from game one you are going to be terribly disappointed.

These reports with no objectivity (he's good, and he's good, and he's good and wow he's good) aren't worth a whole lot to the fan who really wants to get a feel for our team and know where these guys stack up against the rest of CUSA.

Was talking to a guy in a bar in FL back in the day. Just an average guy maybe 6'2" or 6'3" as far as I can remember. He told me that he was guarding Dawkins in HS and holding him in check pretty well, frustrating him - until Dawkins broke his nose.

If my eyes could roll back any further....

You even quoted exactly what I meant...."Bahamas games & scrimmages in practices" and then went to "playing" dumb. Or I assume you are "playing".

It's like you are on the witness stand and can't give a straight answer...

(Your honour...if I may rephrase the question...) Have you, goherd14562, EVER seen Iran dunk against college competition either in the Bahamas or against his own teammates. This would be outside of warming up and practice drills where defense is not played? Yes or No?

(I'll answer for you). Goherd14562: No.

    Not even once, Goherd14562?

Goherd14562: No, not that I can recall.

Thank you. No further questions. I rest my case.

Champ please consider being less antagonistic with other fans and members of the forum.  Thank you.

Would you please stop bashing the people who write about practice.  Most of us can't go and we enjoy reading the reports.  These guys are not NBA scouts.  They write what they perceive to be true and I for one appreciate it, even if they are off.  They are going to quit posting practice reports and it's going to be because of you and people like you.  Go to a practice and give us your report.  Spin it how you want.
