So if this happens Marshall will likely finish the regular season 7-5 again with 18 starters back in the worst conference in football that is having a DOWN year...and Numbnuts will somehow keep his job....incredible.

We'll play a 7-5 MAC/Sunbelt team in a bowl game and probably win...because these bottom of the barrel bowl games are now our Superbowls and the only "championship" we play for.

We don't know very  much yet .. but the deal is already starting to stink worse than poutie $#!+ in my mind. Is this gonna be another Rice debacle ( a.k.a. "senior-cb-caught-looking-in-the-backfield" ) or yet another ACC game official robbery ( YAR ). How about we just play our 3rd and 4th string. Problem solved.

Or, OTH, maybe a chance for VT [already having a tanked season] to square it with Marshall after 2013, 2005, and whenever we hosted them at home and Beamer told the press Doc was trying to get his guys on the field ( the elephant in the room being that they weren't nec. our best players ).

My question is why not play it?

As a fan , as long as it doesn't cost the program money, I don't care what it nets us financially. I would be more excited about this game than any bowl game.

All that said, in the unlikely event it actually falls so that this game happens, I would try to get s future home game out of it. I think makin a bowl is important enough to them we could pull it off.  Their OOC schedule is booked for a decade however, so you'd have that to contend with.

If we get a good deal I say take it.  We are in a great negotiating position here and a win preventing them from bowl eligibility would be more memorable than a win in the Big Lots bowl or wherever we end up.

And a 2ish-to-3ish week break is a lot better in some ways the a 4-to-5 week break.

MH might have something hidden which would sweeten the deal for the Herd, something like a home-&-home for MBB? That'd make the deal worthwhile.

I say they bring them on. This game will be against a better opponent and have more exposure than our bowl game. It's a completely winnable game against a P5 opponent that's within an easy drive.

Scheduling a game contingent on whether one team needs a win for a bowl bid and the other team has nothing to lose is the stupidest freakin' thing I have ever Herd of.

History has shown that there are no positives playing an ACC team. After driving 120+ yards for the game winner at Clemson it is almost like it was decided that this was not going to be allowed again.*

If their teams were not clearly better, it was almost like ACC league officials were going to make sure we never won again. 0-10 since.
*Note: U of MD announced a move to the Big Ten prior to the 2013 Military Bowl.

2000: @UNC - Hines called out of bounds on a TD return when nowhere near the sideline, a clear reception and fumble in the red zone was ruled incomplete. To add insult to injury the lights went out late with us driving. ACC League Office reportedly sent a letter afterward apologizing for the officiating. 20-15

2002: @#16 VT - Byron throws for 200 yards in each half but it is too little too late. 47-21

2005: Loss @#3 VT. Snyder comes up with nothing to help a 7-0 Herd halftime lead. 41-14

2018 NCST 37-20 Uninspired Herd performance. WR Brady "mugged" all game. ACC game officials.

During the above span, Pruett was 0-2, being outclassed once and outright robbed once.
Snyder was also 0-2, outclassed by ranked teams
Doc is currently 0-6, facing 2 ranked teams. 2013 VT game was evenly officiated until OT but MU appeared stunted by ultra-conservative play-calling after taking an early lead. A very frustrating game for Herd fans.

If we sign for this game with no compensation we are looking at a a long-term FIVE for ONE with VT ( 5-1 ). With no evidence that a Doc-led team could get it done given the ( shall I say ) "obstacles" we have faced whenever our talent was comparable to the ACC team we faced.

VT has to beat either Miami or UVA, neither of which will be easy. I for one think we could win at FIU and VT and make this a decent season.

As noted above, Tech's non conference schedule, 4 games a season, is booked solid for the next decade or longer.  Almost all are FBS opponents, with a couple of FCS exceptions:  Tech plays Richmond in about 5 or 6 years and another FCS opponent after that.

Either Hammy is hoping that Tech will replace one of those FCS opponents with the Herd on one of their future schedules or he is trying to get Tech to agree to a home and home BASKETBALL series with MU!!  Having a couple of games with Buzz Williams' ranked Hokies, one at Tech and one in the CAM would be great:  good shot of having national telecasts of both games the way Danny has the Herd going!!!

Some of this is unbelievable.  If we play this game, we may be the favorite.  As mentioned, a game with VT is by far better than any likely opponent in bowl season. 

listen, I’ve been right there with some of you as well the last couple seasons, but stop pissing on everything all the time.

This is a good move for MU.  Money, exposure for fans and recruits (not much football on that day), more experience for the players, drivable game for herd fans in many cities and a good chance to beat an ACC team at home.

Only 16 places behind them in Sagarin and looking at our common opponent, I would say we’d at least have a punchers chance.
