  • As much a Cato is missed, having a quick & slippery, intelligent slot receiver is something that has not been here since Shuler left.

I think Marcel Williams is a really good wr.  NFL type body.  Don't be surprised if he gets into an NFL camp.  He can return punts too.  He's just under used here, which explains why we avg 28ppg.

  • Cato wasn’t a runner either but by his Junior year, he gained confidence and learned to extend plays and get positive yardage with his legs. No, neither are a running QB by trait. It’s something Cato learned and hopefully Green will as well.

Agree, svherd, about Cato as a runner.  He became effective over time and one reason for that is he became pretty good on "riding" the handoff to the RB well towards the line before pulling the ball out and scampering around the end for good yardage, often extending a Herd drive, making a first down, etc.  Only problem was that Cato never really "mastered" that slide "thingy" at the end of the run, as you may recall!  ;D

Marcell and Willie could have abused post routes from the slots this year. When they were called, Green threw it. Why we didn’t run it more? I’ll never know.

Not posts as much as slants/crossing/and stutter routes where they can gain separation without drawing 2x coverage

  • Trying to compare Green to Cato is a disgrace to Cato. Green can't hold Cato's jock strap.

Come on now buddy. You’re letting the hate show through too much. It’s gonna be OK.

  • Cato was surrounded with a more talented offensive roster.

I disagree. Cato's freshman year and the team this year were built very similarly. Shoddy uneven offenses but a great defense.

In 2011 our top receiving threat was Aaron Dobson. I personally think Brady is better there and he is certainly been statistically better than Dobson. But Dobson was a 2nd round pick. At the least this is a wash.

#2 WR from that season was Antavious Wilson. Senior Wilson is probably better than junior Obi Obalio, bigger bodied for sure but Obi has actually been more productive statistically this season. But, on talent I'd give the edge to Wilson.

#3 Troy Evans gets the advantage over Marcell Williams mainly because Troy was more explosive in the return game. As WR they have a very similar impact.

Gator and Shuler were both on the 2011 team but neither emerged as offensive threats until the following year. In 2011 Gator and Shuler combined for a little over 240 yards.

Running backs, I don't believe there is any comparison. Tron Martinez and Trayvon Van carried the load for us in the backfield in 2011 and I don't think either would crack our 3 deep at that spot right now. King is certainly better than both and Knox has looked very good the last few weeks. Anderson and Davis haven't been 100% basically all year but both are serviceable.

I just dont believe that 2011 was more talented offensively than 2018 is. Cato and co def faced a much tougher schedule. Against this schedule Cato would have had better numbers than what he had in 2011 no doubt.

You are going to look really dumb over the next few years. Green is really good. He is just as good if not better than Cato was a FR. I will give that Cato was a true FR, but the year Green redshirted didn't help that much considering it was under a different OC and system.

He already showed how clueless he was by jumping all over ATs jock strap trying to say AT was better than Green.

If Green doesn't get hurt then we win the East this year.

  • Cato beat ….  Loserville, S.Miss, Memphis, ECU, and FIU in bowl.  Graham or whoever beat UAB and Rice (Cato played sparingly).
And the American Conf. is too good for Marshall now...…  no way it should be!!

  • If Cato would have this years schedule, Tyre Brady and a Top 5 defense as a freshman, he would have won 10 games and had 1000 more yards passing.

Green may or may not be comparable to Cato and that has nothing to do with anyone's opinion, but I saw early on Cato showed flashes, beating Teddie Bridgewater at Louisville and how Cato could complete 3rd downs...

QB statistic totals don't represent how special you are as a QB.  What a QB does with 3rd downs and what a QB does with the game on the line in the 4th quarter are what separate serviceable qb from good qb and Good QBs from great QBs...

It's up to Green where he goes from here, but I haven't seen enough to be sold and we better have another good qb that pushes him next year...

  • Hard to tell at this point.  Green will be a good one.  Cato just had that fire in his belly!  Green is shows little emotion!

  • Cato was a true Freshman with no college experience. If you recall, Doc benched him a couple of games until he got his emotions under control and concentrated.  Doc would not allow him to run because of his sub-170 weight - everyone remembers he couldn't slide. And Cato was not surrounded with the talented support troops like a Tyre Brady and an experienced offensive line.

Isaiah is doing fine but he is not now nor will he ever be a Rakeem.

  • I can not for the life of me understand this disdain for Green. He hasn't looked great at times, but for a RS freshman he's made some pretty big plays and throws this year. He has a strong arm, throws one of the prettiest spirals you'll see and can hit those long passes. I've also seen him go through reads several times this year. Yes, he panics when there's any type of pressure and the kid will NOT take a hit, but I think there is a lot more upside to him than what some are giving him credit for. That first TD pass against FIU to Brady was a come-back throw that he couldn't do earlier in the season. Yeah he still misses on some of those touch passes, but again, freshman. If you can't see flashes of talent in this kid, you need to take a closer look.

I think some are pissed that Thomson was a bust. Green is green, had no starting or game experience, red shirted last year. New OC this year, VERY unstable OL early in the season. Yep, he has issues, no question. But if he works hard and the coaches actually do their jobs. he should be fine.

  • Before I saw Green play this season, I thought he was dual-threat. But, he’s really a pocket-passer, pro-style type. I think his reads and holding onto the ball will get better, the more he plays. Green’s a talented passer, especially on the deep ball.

So now do we have a similar mismatch between the QB's skill set & the offensive system that we had during the Litton reign of overthrows?

Teddy B clone.  Not as athletic.  Teach him the pocket and how to play under center.
