One of the most crushing Saturday's in recent memory today. Football has a chance to get a signature win and perhaps salvage a season in the eyes of many. This win DID matter, and No, a shitty bowl game doesn't matter, especially without this win. Doc had a chance to prove he can win, and failed. We made Vtech look like a playoff contender today. Stupid, decisions like the pooch kick, giving up before half, terrible playcalling by Cramsey, not taking advantage of 1 on 1s and soft corner coverage. We were as unprepared to play today, as i have ever seen us. There are no excuses. This will only get worse next season. We lose most of our team, have no QB, and Doc will go ahead and finish off all passion for herd football. The ONLY thing i see that will fix this, is his resignation, and allow someone to reignite the fan passion. Everyone with a brain knows that Doc can't get it done here now. And it seems my initial fears on Cramsey may be true, he has sucked at now both D1 football stops he has made. I think he is suited more at a lower level of football. Doc went out and either found as close a version as Legg as he could, or has forcefully made him like Legg through tyranny.
Also on this glorious day, our basketball team lost to Ohio. Which isn't a bad loss on the surface, OU usually has a solid basketball team. But its the way we lost that is the concern. No defense, and no rebounding. As I said, our team is good enough, to overcome maybe even getting outrebounded 9-12 or so in a very close game if we shoot well. But you get above that, and certainly to -20 etc, then you're going to lose. Rebounding is our #1 issue, with interior defense #2. Way too many consistent easy layups. Combined with the Maryland loss, the alarm bells are about to go off on what obviously many of us thought was going to be a very special season. It is important to note that it is still early, and Dan has given us NO REASON not to trust him in getting better as the year goes on, and our losses this season are far better than early last season. Its important to also understand that losses to Duquesne, and Virginia, A&M etc on the road don't spell doom either. It'll be nice to pick up a couple wins, but officiating is an issue at those places on the road, and if we are competitive, at least, its not the end of the world. We have a Maryland Esque type meltdown again and its time for heavy criticism of what would be a mentally weak team that isn't prepared.
Summary. Football is dead and only a resignation will renew my season tickets and Big Green donation, and I also believe thats the only thing that'll put more than 14-15k in the Joan other than maybe 18-20k for the opener next year. Doc will quickly squander the hopes of a decent season before conference play even begins if he is still here. Next season is probably a write off rebuild with a new coach, but giving one time to build the new program in a write off year is better than Doc ruining another season and killing the last 25% of the fanbase.
Basketball is still OK. I trust Dan will continue to make us better, and i believe we will compete in the conference as well. Patience and trust in the guy that got us to the tourney, for the first time in 30 years and our first ever win, thats improved every year he has been here, is not unreasonable. Questioning him and his system at this early juncture is unreasonable. And let's be honest, a cusa tourney win is really the only way into the tourney anyway for us in CUSA.
