FBS has no a playoff. I wish the pundits, and fans, called it what it is because words matter in separating the truth from the agenda driven narrative, and calling it what it is might have some positive impact. What we have is a selection committee FBS tournament, it is not a playoff of any kind. Not by any definition or precedence.
Is there any other sport, at any level, where the process to choose the overall league champion, has as the only entrance criteria, subjective selection by a committee with no direct tie to being the champion of a conference, division, region, etc? FCS and NCAA basketball apply committee subjective selections after the conference automatic bids are satisfied.
Is there even one other example of a "playoff" - any sport at any level - that follows this committee selection only model?
