I know a lot of of Herd Fans are also big Reds fans. This is sad for me personally as I feel like something that was left from my childhood is ending. Me and my Dad spent a lot of Summer nights listening to Marty and Joe on AM radio. The Reds weren’t on tv every night of the week like they are now.

I, too, remember listening to them when I was younger. It will be interesting to see who they get to replace him or if it will be a number of people bouncing in and out of the booth. I figured this was coming soon. Back in the day, Marty was there every game. The past few seasons, he has taken a number of weeks off during the season.

Yeah he doesn’t seem to do very many of the West coast road trips anymore. I expected it to. Him and Jeff Brantley do well together, but there’s not a duo out there who cash top Marty and Joe Nuxall.

I've never really cared for Jeff Brantley. I know I'm in the minority there, but some of the things he says just drives me bananas. Marty has not had a good sidekick since Joe was there.

Switching gears just a little, I have two records of the two Big Red Machine years. One that covers the '75 season and the other covers the '76 season. Usually, I break those out at the beginning of the season. Lots of play calling by Marty and Joe both. It brings back tons of memories.

He ripped the Late Dr. Kopp when he spoke at the Herd baseball banquet for the lack of a home field a few years ago. He’s also ripped the MU athletic dept a few times on the air during the Reds broadcast for the same thing. He definitely calls it like he sees it. Young broadcasters wouldn’t get away with that today.

I’ve wondered about that trade myself. From what I understand the pitcher they got in the deal is actually pretty solid, but I don’t know a lot about him. The Reds definitely need starting pitching though.

I’ve fallen asleep many nights with headphones on listening to the game when it would be a 10:35 start on the west coast. Kids now have the game on tv every night don’t understand that. I still prefer baseball on the radio over tv. I’m also a huge Nascar fan and prefer it on the radio. The guys at MRN radio paint a picture in the mind the same a a good radio baseball broadcaster can.

As a record collector, I can tell you they are not worth much, at least right now. The one for the '75 season was purchased when it came out. The one for the '76 season I purchased not too long ago I paid $3.

My wife is a huge dodger fan her whole life. She dispised puig the first couple years. But she said he has done a 180 and she hated losing him. She said he will run thru a brick wall and now plays with passion. This lineup after this trade is going to launch homeruns out of GAB. Roarke and woods are nice additions to the pitching staff. Pick up one more solid pitcher and this team is going to be fun to watch and who knows how far they can go. The offense will be lethal and pitching much improved.

I didn’t think that Riggleman did bad with that little he had to work with after he took over last year. I’d like to have see what he could have done with this lineup.

Wonder if his son will replace him as the play-by-play guy since he is already a part of the Reds/Fox Sports Ohio TV crew.

Hope Marty hangs in a while longer.  Always thought it would be great to bring him back to Huntington if/when MU and the City dedicates its new baseball facility.  Perhaps they should considered naming media/broadcast booth at the park after Marty, since he has shamed, taken to task, MU for its lack of any credible baseball facility to date.

Oh, does anyone have any later news about the big MU announcement about fund raising for the baseball (and other?) facility which "allegedly" was to have taken place over last week-end?  I guess it has been put off until later this year, . . . or early 2020, . . . late 2020, . . . 2021? . . . 22??

Like the rest of you I grew up listening to him and have XM radio to listen to him now. Takes me back to sitting with my Grandpa on the front porch on a hot WV summer evening. Him yelling at the ready telling Bench to get a hit 😄.  Sneaking my transistor radio into bed with my earpiece and falling asleep wondering who won. Good times.

The summer they had cardboard Elvis and every game having Elvis facts was one of the best (before the club put the kibosh on it).  He feuds with Griffey Jr and other players, his opinion about Mike Brown and the Bengals, and the enjoyment and humor he brings to the booth is truly unique.  I still get a kick out of his way of announcing attendance at games..."32,453 for tonights titanic struggle, that's 32 thousand, 453.."

Yeah, chriss88, that's one of many things that makes Marty a classic:  the way he can weave dry whit and sarcasm which results in both making a point and providing humor.  Love it when he does as you say and announces the attendance in a game between the cellar dwelling Reds and another bottom feeder 20 or so games below .500 and still calls it "a titanic struggle"!!  He'll be missed, BIG TIME, for sure!
