Just don't understand the thinking of WKU's AD, etc. They made some impressive noise in last year's NIT. I figured Stansbury would want the chance for his guys to make some more this year. 2 impressive NIT runs and then if the Toppers make it to the Dance next season and get a win or so, one would have to think that whatever marks Stansbury may have against him from his last "Major" HC gig would be overlooked and he would be on several schools radar.
Despite the Conference's record this year of stinking it up, the League has had some quality teams and Head Coaches the last few years. Look at Coach Rhoades who was briefly at Rice and had the freshman of the year about 3 seasons ago, beating the Herd then, I believe. He left, took the Head Job at VCU and his frosh hot shot followed. This year, VCU is in the Dance, Rhoades is making a solid record at VCU, and the freshman, although currently injured, has been a star in the A-10.
Then there is Mike White, who led Louisiana Tech until moving on to Florida a couple years ago. The Gators are back in the Dance and have already won a game. Finally, long time MTSU head man, Kermit Davis, left the Raiders after last season for the had job at Ole Miss. Don't look now, but Davis turned the Rebel program around real quick and was the SEC Coach of the Year!!
So this League has had some solid coaches who can coach AND recruit. Can't keep them around, however. May prove to repeat if schools like UTSA, North Texas and El Paso improve greatly in the next couple of years. The first two don't appear to support their basketball program that well and draw many fans. UTEP had a good following/fan base when the team was doing a lot better.
