  • Keyshawn “Pie” Young. I don’t know much about him but I hope he is cleared to play this season. If not he will only have one year of eligibility at MU. Anyone have more info on him?

Barring an unexpected turn of events, Young will be forced to sit out the 2019 season to comply with NCAA transfer bylaws.  That would then make the 2020 season his final year of eligibility.

Young was a three-star member of the Trojans’ 2016 recruiting class.  The 5-11, 170-pound Florida native played in nine games, all at cornerback, during his true freshman season before moving to wide receiver prior to his sophomore campaign.  He didn’t catch a pass in either of the past two seasons.

Seems a little odd to give up a chance to earn college degree from USC, a private university with academic prestige, to come to Marshall for a shot at only playing one season. I mean he would have to have one tremendous season here to ever have a shot at an NFL contract. I’m not sure why Doc would waste a roster spot for an unproven athlete unless there was a chance at a waiver this season.

  • Portal is a mixed bag.  We have potentially 3 senior starters at wr.  Henry, Obialo, Richardson.  He's taking his chances.  If he can catch 3 out of every 5 passes thrown his way he's already better than Willie Johnson.  Give him a chance.  See nothing wrong with this pick-up.  He's more quick than fast.  Knock is his breakaway speed and route tree.  But his agility and quickness are 5/5.  Tavon Austin used to get smoked in hs track but he was quick and agile.

  • I guess, after thinking about it for a while, that I can understand why Doc would take him. I mean even though he never made any significant contributions while at Troy, he has had the experience of playing against some of the best talent in practice, which I would bet is much better competition than he will ever face in C-USA action.
It still baffles me why he would give up an opportunity at a USC degree just to play one eligible season at MU?
USC would not have offered him a roster spot unless he could qualify academically and make the grades (I don’t think he was a scholarship athlete) but I feel there is more to this story.
