  • That game was just horrible to watch. For some misguided reason, I really thought the team would come together and win that one. Outside of Knox looking really good, everything about it was just awful. Getting destroyed by such a bad P5 team really shed light on the quality of our wins the rest of the season.

  • Too short notice for either team to do anything for the other team.  We weren't prepared, and neither were they.

But we both got what we wanted from playing the game, they got a very important bowl game and we got an additional two games with VaTech.

  • I wonder what Hamrick and Holliday's under the table payday looked like to extend Va Tech's bowl streak? I know what the school got paid to play the game, I just wonder what the big guys got paid to blow it.

  • We drove down there like fools expecting something different from a Doc team, ended up leaving right after halftime.

  • All I know is our deep safeties looked like that they never had played pass defense before.  We sat on the sideline down at around the 5 yard line at the big scoreboard end of Lane Stadium.  Twice there were two long Tech bombs to a single receiver on a straight down the field "fly" pattern.  Two MU defensive backs ran from opposite sides of the receiver and were quite close when he hauled the ball in; neither defender made any play "on the ball".  Became, IMO, what actor Roy Scheider described in a movie as a"JAFO".  "Just Another Frigging Observer".  Every time still early enough in the game for MU to rally when the HERD needed a stop our defensive secondary made the rather pedestrian Tech QB look like Tom Brady as he completed key pass after key pass!!  As if our pass defense was predicated on the notion that "after they catch the ball, try and tackle the receiver"!!

  • Luckily this conference has few decent QB’s. Because decent to good qb’s shred our defense. But we very rarely play against one.

  • Knox was a beast and fun to watch.. it was a strange game for many reasons... last minute, bad weather but I had a great day with my two sons who still talk about the trip..that is what MU football means to me..I remember going to games when I was a kid with my dad at Fairfield and it did not matter that we lost most of those games..I just enjoyed being there.

I come in now for games to visit friends and family and cheer for my Herd... great memories throughout my life following the Herd.

  • VT trounces the Herd but beaten by Cinci in a bowl game.  Herd plays Cinci this year at home.  Herd is the dog at home despite destroying the Bearcats 2 years ago.  What has changed the programs of the Herd and Bearcats?

Our secondary play is bad usually.  In 1999 our D picked off 24 passes.  What's the most total pics in the Doc Holliday era?  Our defense is designed to stop the run.  Too easy to pass on.  The year we had the Michigan cb starting he ran 4.7 or 4.8 on his pro day.  Marshall football lacks speed.  Pruett had guys that could burn the clock.  Now we are happy and bragging if a recruit runs 11.4 in the 100m and 23.0 in the 200m.

  • If you watched Tyre Brady play his 1st preseason game it was sad to watch how slow off the line he really is.  Not sure after his slow burst and failure to complete routes if he will play a snap again.  This is an indication to me just how bad this CUSA really is when Tyre Brady can look All Star.  The best thing that could happen to Holliday is getting a new S&C Coach considering how slow we are.  We need 200lb lb's and 220lb de's to appear as a fast defense but these guys are out of position.

Blue Thunder (1983). I haven’t thought about that movie in years. Great movie. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m3MmvPqANmg

Our 1937 Buckeye Conference Champions were the cat's pajamas on defense too!

Hey, nobody is more about the history of our program that I am, but I don't think it's productive to constantly compare our current teams and coaches to a team 20 years ago.

Point is that if we are going to be a legit pass coverage D we must get more INT.  If we are going to beat all the teams on our schedule we must create more turnovers on D.  If we play to our best players on offense (tailbacks) and create turnovers on defense we have a chance to win all of our games.  Our leaders in picks in recent years normally has about 2 picks on avg.  Not enough.

I do want to make it clear I was and remain pissed at our Virginia Tech performance.  I live in Roanoke and a performance like that was so bad my friends didn't razz me, they pitied me for rooting for such a shitty team.

So long as we are talking about history, the most frustrating pass defense I ever saw was I think the mid Snyder teams where the corners played 10-15 yards off the receiver. There was literally nothing they could do to keep from giving up 8 yard receptions.
