  • Nose is clogged eyes are washed.
Good to remember where we were since it is now getting to be so long ago and so few actually lived through things.
And to serve as a reminder if we don't get that wonderful season I hope for and envision ... well.
But I want us to win them all no matter who gets the credit or who leads us. Because, after all, We Are Marshall, and that makes us different and it always will.

  • Wisconsin, Ohio State, Syracuse, Alabama, and Tennessee, I've been a student or a faculty member at all of them, so technically I am an alum of all these places.  Marshall is the most special university in the world and you just don't know unless you've been there.

I am Marshall.  I am not anything else.  I could wear my crimson, my scarlet, or my orange.  Screw em.  I wear KELLY green and I'm proud to do it.
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

My girlfriend just graduated from Alabama in May. I asked what games we were doing in Huntington and then in Tuscaloosa. She said she’s only interested in the Marshall games even using her couple of PTO days from work to travel to Boise. She said she wouldn’t trade going to Alabama but that Marshall truly is one of the coolest places and she’s so excited for the season. People don’t realize how great we have it.

I just wish our administration and Alumni Association could instill this sentiment into the current students and new alumni. I think most new graduates and students are more detached from their respective schools these days and the loyalty/bond just doesn't exist like it did in days past. We need to fix that as the new graduates and current students will be the donors of the future. jmho

  • The first Monday after the Plane Crash, I watch Dallas playing a game on Monday Night Football. At the beginning of the game, the announcer, on national TV, asked the crowd at the Cotton Bowl to please stand in silence for the Marshall football team. The Cotton Bowl was sold out and everyone stood in silence for The Herd. For the younger posters, Monday Night Football was one of the highest rated TV shows and the Cowboys had a national following. I would love to see a video of that moment.

You might actually be surprised how much the school involves incoming freshman and how they try to bring them in to the Marshall family and our unique culture.
My daughter is in this years freshman class of 1,050 students. Let me start off by saying move in day was this past Tuesday and I have never been more impressed with Marshall. They have move in day nailed. We drove down from Columbus with our Yukon XL packed. I made 1 trip from the parking lot of the Joan to her dorm room. Volunteers carried the rest of her things.

This week is  WOW week. Week of welcome. They’ve taken class pictures on the 50 yard line and at the John Marshall statue. Last night they watched We are Marshall on the field inside of the Joan. Today they watched a performance in the performing arts center about John Marshall and the history of Marshall U. They also have a mandatory university 101 class that helps them become acquainted with our GREAT University.

We all have something to be proud of. Our little university has grown and come a long way!

  • Only 1050 in the freshman class?

    That doesn’t seem very good.

That’s what I was thinking. We need at least 2-3K per class to grow; if not more.

  • When I lived in North Carolina I had the privilege of introducing, to an audience, a man who had just taken a position at Marshall.  His parents were in attendance.  I introduced him in this fashion, "Benjamin is going to the finest institution of higher learning in the land."  When I said those words, his own mother let out an audible snicker and then she smirked.  Years later, this mom now has changed her tune and knows what we know, that there is no finer institution of higher learning anywhere!

  • The HD yesterday put the number at more than 1450.

'The two were among more than 1,450 freshman students who moved into their new homes Tuesday with the help of about 300 upperclassman volunteers, family and friends.'

Also they used to allow freshmen  living within a set number of miles to commute and not stay on campus. Is this still in effect?

  • 1450 freshmen alone moved onto campus and Marshall let’s you live off campus with a medical excuse (incredibly easy to get) or if you live within 50 miles of campus which makes up a huge amount of the campus. There is WELL over 2k of incoming freshmen with more to join in December.
