  • put the mfer in at tight end and throw the ball to him.  Enough of the telegraphed trick plays.  Killing any offensive movement.  We are making this way too complex.  Move the ball.  It's that simple.

Yes. Get rid of the gimmicky offense.

Not me.  Just an effective one.  But in this game we didn't need all the flash.  Just needed to get down in the dirt with them and control the ball.  Gaines would have been more effective in the TE and getting open in midfield.  Just like he did vs VMI and much of last year.

There’s an SI article out there that says your bottom P5 schools should run the triple option but won’t because fan support would plummet. You always hear how boring it is. Really though that O plus a ball control O does wonders to counter the gimmick Os. It’s not fancy. You may not draw a crowd quick but you’ll win and grow it.

  • We had every opportunity to just line up and play with them and all the BS we tried killed the offensive effort.  Then, add in that Green really needs to be able to make much, much, much, much better decisions; we could be very good. Our defense is surprisingly still strong, albeit we still aren't much (read, we suck) at the CBs.

Corners were right there with their guys on anything deep.  If anything they got too much on open passes to the flats.  LBs weren't backing up to help and midfield was wide open.

I’m not a fan of Legg, but I’m a fan of the way he used his TE’s. I’d use him like they used Gator Hoskins. And he’s faster than Gator was. It’s that simple. He’d clean up. Would’ve been nice to see more play action called. Really would’ve helped out the o line and run game down the stretch, which would’ve opened up the pass game a lot more. Of course penalties affect play calling, so that had some obvious bad effects.

Agreed.  We just needed a tight end doing tight end things, not all those wildcat crazy plays that Boise just sat back and waited for.

Can’t help run game when run plays are never called.  Oc struggles in tough games and panics when behind.

  • Gaines is good and he is a weapon.  He made several good plays early in..the issue is not Gaines it is  that we stopped running the ball.

That's where knowing you're going to win comes into play. Right now, we don't have that "winning swagger", we're lacking that right now.

Not saying don't use him.  Saying enough of the crazy direct snap and passing plays and wildcat formations.  When he's used as a typical tight end he's amazing.  And I started this thread after the 3rd failed "creative" attempt in a row.

  • We are thin in size at WR, move him there; even into the slot where he is more experienced going over the middle.  He is one heck of an athlete and needs to be on the field.

  • We need to play offensive football.  Run and pass the staples of the game.  Mix them up keep the D guessing. Things that are football.  The NFL Pass game coord from Saints that is now at LSU engineered a nearly a 500 yd passing attack.  You want a marshall passing attack back bring on Leftwich!!!  College coaches can’t handle nfl passing game concepts that some teams have. Saints pats chiefs.  Those coaches can turn college offenses around quickly.

Can he catch better this year?  Certainly better hands than Willie Johnson.

  • Am I just not remembering correctly or was our best drive of the night the one where we ran Gaines in the wildcat and him and Knox just ran it down their throats? I personally wanted to continue running the wildcat, not for trick throws, but to just run the option attack.

Then play Thompson at QB.  He’s actually good at running the read option and from his performance at VMI; his arm is clearly healed as his throws looked 110% better.

Start AT the rest of the year and groom Wells to take over next year.  The only experiment that should be over is Green as a D1 QB.

I'm not ready to give up on Green. I like to think the staff wouldn't start Green if AT was better in practice. I feel they tried real hard to make an injured AT our QB last year and that makes me think they'd love a reason to start him this year too. If they keep Green out there then they must think he's better. Then again it is Doc.

Thompson is a better QB, than Gaines hands down. Thompson is a much accurate thrower and he can read defenses better. IMO, had Thompson came in to play, we would have beaten Boise. This is what's so damn frustrating about Doc Holliday, not knowing when to play the best. Hell, Doc had a few QB's here that sat on the bench and became NFL practice squad players.. SMH..
