  • Who remembers Doc's three automatic dismissals, carrying a weapon (gun possession), hitting/inappropriately touching a female, and ??????????????????/

This has been a rule since Day One for / with Doc.  Not saying either/any of the three happened, but let's be honest, if they did, everyone knows the rules.

I remember one of Bob P.’s rules was don’t drive around with weed.

  • King played after his fumble so I doubt it's that. Knox, I believe, only got 2 carries in 2nd half while Cramsey was the deer in the headlights.  I tend to agree with others who think King probably violated one of the cardinal sins. Feel bad for the young man and hope he lands on his feet. In hindsight, to this point, Doc has done a pretty good job in making these decisions.

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

  • We don't run the ball anyways.  He's better off getting carries somewhere else.  He is a legit D1 back.  If we keep piling up L's it's only going to get worse.  Evans is really good but he will get just 10 carries against the bad teams and 2-6 against any good teams left on our schedule.  Dude has to be frustrated playing rb under Cramsey.

  • Sometimes Mid Majors get players with lots of talent but have issues that the bigger schools don't need because they have more to choose from.

Mid Majors have to take some chances on players.  When teams rules are set they are for everyone.

  • 100 guys on a team...you are going to lose some..take 100 students at MU and the amount that don’t finish is a higher rate then the players we lose.
People seem to forget that Pruett and the coaches before him had some unsavory characters on their teams and had to dismiss several. Does the name Percy Moorman ring a bell. Very talented kid that the late Coach Chaump tried to give a chance with The Herd and never played a down here before he was in trouble and off of the team. I don’t agree with everything Doc does by far, but a lot of kids were dismissed before he got here. It didn’t start with him.

Don't take this as a shock,
But never hire a coach named Doc.
    Spent 30 years an assistant,
    While never increasing his stock.

From Nehlen he learned to fear
4th down from far and near.
    Let's go coach, it's only a yard.
Sorry boys, that just seems to hard.

Recruiting is where he will shine,
If his recruits were eligible, that would be fine.
But as we have learned in the last ten years
Most don't last long for the fans to cheer.

So we head for another season of 8-5
    Beating cupcakes to survive.
But this week is a very big game!
All I can say is that's a shame.
Whenever we play a team with a pulse.
Go ahead and chaulk it up as a loss.

Wow, you are bringing back some old Herd football memories!

Maybe I am misreading your post, but Moorman did play in at least one game for The Herd.  I remember bringing in a Richmond newspaper with a large article above the fold on the front page of the sports section with an article about Moorman showing up at MU. Moorman was from Danville, VA. I showed it to our AD, at the time, and his expression after seeing the newspaper was priceless.

Here is a link about Moorman playing  for The Herd against Morehead.

  • 2 Things-
    1) We are a program that lives off 2nd chance guys. That only works if everyone is held to a reasonable standard of behavior, whether they are a second chance guy or not.  Whether you are a starting RB or a special teams only guy, the rules are the same.
    2) Until Marshall has enough wealthy donors to support a high level head coach, we aren't gonna replace Doc with anyone worth mentioning.  There are 2 models I see for programs our size- find a coach who can make you relevant, or constantly try and find "the next great coach" who gets hired away after 2 seasons.  Ask WKU football fans how that second system works. I don't think Doc is a "great" coach, but hes a steal for the money we can pay.

Talk about programs that went in opposite directions.  Morehead use to be a must win regional rival.  Now it's debatable that they would even be considered for the Herd's one warm up game vs a FCS opponent.

At one time Morehead use to be a part of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  Now a member of the Pioneer Athletic Conference.  It seems like a few years ago I read that Morehead was considering giving up offering athletic scholarships for football.  Anyone know if Morehead still gives athletic scholarships for football?

Money doesn’t buy smarts.   That’s what Doc is missing.  It’s the “smarts” that makes you the money. If I were to hit the lottery and offered Doc 5 mil a year to coach would he become a great coach?  He is a bad coach who has always been bad. He will not get any better. A zebra can’t change his stripes.  Doc isn’t going to wake up today or tomorrow or next year and all of a sudden he is a mastermind.  There are several posters on here that are “plants” of his that have to defend him. Just like the coaches show that has a plant that is GIVEN questions. by Doc himself to ask each week. The guy goes by Doc office each Thursday and is told what questions to ask.

I'm not saying offer Doc more money, I'm saying we don't pay enough to get a coach who is better than Doc. I'm not a huge fan either, but be realistic. Who, out here, should we hire to replace him? I think Swinney and Saban are happy where they're at, and I believe Lou Holtz is enjoying retirement.  Sure we can roll the dice on some young coach and hope, but that leads to the WKU scenario I mentioned.

There are a lot of up and coming coaches all across America, that would love to have the Marshall job. Take Graham Harrell USC offensive coordinator, I'd take him in a heartbeat. A lot of these coaches aren't expecting the "big pay day", until they become a big time coach, like Jim Donnan. Stop acting like Doc is the only coach for the money he's making.
