  • According to Chuck, the team will practice 2:30 pm this afternoon at the Rec Center.

Iran, a 300-pounder, has lost 80 pounds. And the team has more size this season with 7-0 athletic Goran.

Dan says the competition for spots will be tough.

The competition for PT will be fierce.
Practice today, Wed and Thurs at 2:30 in the Rec. for 1 hour each day. Same for next week as well.
The regular 3 hour practices start in the Cam on Thursday the 26th and Fri the 27th. For those out of towners coming to the UC game, you can catch them on Sat the 28th at 8:00am

  • Anyone in the know, understand what "the 300 pounder has lost 80 lbs" means? Does that mean he's down to 220?

    Unnecessary. LOL

Wasn't he playing at 330 last year. So that is kind of misleading. He lost 50 before the 2018-19 season even started which they are counting (that's why I was confused). He's basically lost 30 lbs since last year (we've seen him last).

  • Dan has always been reserved about how good we will be etc. He seems more confident in this team than he was about the ncaa tourney team. Beyond excited about basketball.

Was with him last weekend in TN. He got to meet us for his younger brother's college football game. He said he feels great and his shot is "on point" (lol) right now. I asked him was he working on his dribble and he said he definitely has been. I would love to see him hit a few 3's and then when they come rushing out at him, give a little head fake, two dribbles and hang on the rim for a minute or two. (without the technical of course). That would make them start thinking a mili-second about trying to block the jumper. Give him time to get it off or drive right past them.
That's MY game plan for him. Danny may have something totally different in mind, lol.

This team has way more weapons and depth. Not counting we finally have a team that has size and can match up. But do NOT expect them to come out of the gate clicking. It will take some time with all the new talent and new PG running the show. But this team can become very good this year. And the sky is the limit after that IMO!!!

more threes, a more independent/free role (ball handling and a more decisive first step).   more threes for Jarrod as well as he had the highest % 2 years ago, at least against smaller teams/guards

Glad to hear it about Jannson, JReese (Also hope his younger brother has a safe and successful football season, personally and team wise).  Believe Jannson with a better ability to fake the three and dribble drive to the hole gives the Herd another, and more potent, offensive weapon.  We know he has the trey.  And he certainly has the size and athleticism, IMO, to finish at the goal.  Then, too, there's also the 3rd option of forcing an opposing player to come off a Herd player in the opposite corner and try to help defend Jannson at the rim, leaving Jannson with another option of passing out to the open teammate for an uncontested corner 3!!  This may be, although a young team overall, the one in Danny's tenure to date to have most diverse offensive options, and potentially the most POTENT going forward!!

Yes. in the middle of the semester he has few options. To transfer he would miss this season and the first semester of next year as well.

yes,  We discussed all of that in detail. He's very excited to get going today.

Also, thank you for the well wishes of his younger brother. I can't say little brother. He is 6-4ish and about 260ish. a true junior and the starting center at Berry College in Rome, GA. He also plays on PAT's and punt team. He has paid his dues as an underclassman and now he is getting plenty of playing time.

Would love to know what makes you think IB deserves big minutes?

He might not be the most athletic but he is a presence in the paint on both sides of the ball at his best.

  • I still don't see how we can be better than last year.  Guys we have to replace over 50 points a game. Ok let's do it buy committee.  A two man committee will have to score about 25 points a game.  Which two are going to avg 25 points per game.  Ok let's do it with three guys.  Which three guys are going to avg. about 16 per game.  I wish I was as confident as some of you are but I just don't see happening.  I do think we can be decent but just not better than last year.

We will be much better our recruiting is picking up and we don’t have Elmore throwing up shots in hopes of the NBA. I can’t wait to see how many times get smithed for this.
