  • For heavens sake I still don't understand the hatred for Jon Elmore.  Next year you will see the effects of no Jon Elmore and no C.J. Burks as well as no Rondell Watson.

  • He might not be the most athletic but he is a presence in the paint on both sides of the ball at his best.

We were talked at practice today. People are going to be eating words before its over.

  • i think everyone agrees that give or take a couple of wins, we've team's been on a steady upward trajectory so i have no reason to think they won't fill the scoring gaps by full committee.  if not, i'm hopeful that better D by full committee will win games even if they are lower-scoring games.

thanks in advance to those who report on practices to come

  • We will be much better our recruiting is picking up and we don’t have Elmore throwing up shots in hopes of the NBA. I can’t wait to see how many times get smithed for this.

I agree with this as well. We will see a lot more team ball and athletic ball this year.

I’ve said it before. There is a very, very small but very, very vocal group that does hate on him. I don’t understand it either? I admit he’s my alltime favorite. Began when TRS gave glowing reports on him from practice before he ever suited up. CUSA championship and NCAA tourney win were my MU sports high point of my life.

  • I love Elmore and what he did here but he is one of the most over rated players of all time. Put him in the same system Herrion ran and he would be lucky to be All Conference.

Taylor will do the same thing Elmore did. If he's not as selfish then the team will be better under Taylor.

What kind of system did Herrion have ? He couldn’t coach his way out of a paper bag.

  • Yes. in the middle of the semester he has few options. To transfer he would miss this season and the first semester of next year as well.
I guess the question should be ( Is he happy ? ) I don’t think it would be a good idea for him to transfer anyway. Think he would just be hurting himself .

  • “Taylor will do the same thing Elmore did”? Wow. Here we go again. Putting that kind of pressure on Taylor, who correct me if I’m wrong, has never played a college game.  Good chance he doesn’t become the alltime leading scorer and assist man at MU.

That doesn't mean he is better.

CL is in the top 5 passing in Marshall history. No way in hell he is a Top 5 QB. Don't even know if he breaks the Top 10.

Oh you will. Its not all about jumping. Its also about strength and power down low. If it were all about jumping Bird would have been horrible.

I agree with this 100%. This team needs to carve out its own identity. Jon and cj will be huge to replace and it will take some time. But we are so much better inside and bigger as a team. Once the guard play gets it rolling we will be a better “team”.

  • Marco is turning into one of my favorite players. He is just all around good. Those 2 euros are going to be very good before they leave here. Beyers looks much more toned this year also. And jannson is shooting it very well. West has become like another coach out there. He watches intently every play and is coaching guys up all the time.

  • Last year’s tot FGAs was 2367 (opponents 2340)
    Elmore 595  39%
    Burks 517  48%
    Watson 225  43%

Might suggest that Burk’s efficiency would be the most difficult to replace.  As far as game-on-the-line scoring, I do not know who was most efficient.

    Kinsey 259  59% (best)
    Williams 254  44%
George 141  45% (arguably, should have had more attempts)
I’ll assume these guys ^ attempts will increase.

Byers and Bennet were in the top three (with Kinsey) for FG efficiency for obvious reasons- the lack of attempts also obvious.

Without knowing how well the large herd of newbies will shoot at this level, I still feel like they will not drop off much, if at all.  But yes, as it has been said on here, it does come down to who can step up and score or create scoring under pressure with the game on the line- sometimes the departed three did and sometimes they did not.

uhhhh....we use him in the pick and roll every game and he CAN'T jump. Get serious. It was a waste of possession every time last year.

  • Watching practice yesterday and it is so obvious that we are so much faster/quicker in moving the ball. It never stops moving. These guys had an all out up and down the floor scrimmage for about 35 minutes yesterday. They never stopped. They are, even this early in the season, in pretty good shape.
The difference in Marko and Goran from when they arrived a few weeks ago is night and day. They looked out of shape then but not now. Rigot insisted that they weren't so much out of shape that first week or so as it was jet lag. As he said they crossed 12 time zones to get here and that can have an effect on your body. Not sure if he was right or not but they are full go now.

I want to add for you out of towners that may be in for the UC football game. The team will be practicing at 8am in the Cam the Saturday morning of the game
