  • 1st about hops...
Bird was not exactly a skywalker, but he could jump better than what some of y'all are giving him credit for. If you include being nearly ambidextrous, having excellent hands and great eye-to-hand coordination as being included as 'athleticism' then Bird was a great athlete.

Next, a player at IB's size does not have to jump well. There are plenty of examples of very effective inside players who have played very effectively below the rim at the highest level. If you watched the games at the end of the season, you'd realize how much IB effectively disrupted opponents' offense. I do worry about how many passes he fumbles away or fails to catch cleanly.

2nd, about missing CJ & Elmore...
I agree to a point with my friend TRS that we'll miss their explosive scoring. But I also believe that the MBB could be better by mid-season than the 2018-19 Herd, barring injuries and suspensions. We'll be longer, probably play less iso-ball and rebound better.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

also, off the ball, Jon was a pro at being where he needed to be quickly and made a ton of rebounds, steals, help D and so forth.  but court awareness and focus, thinking ahead and visualizing, taking no plays off should, for the most part, be 100% teachable.

  • We definitely have the “potential” to be better by the end of this year than last year. The size and talent is there to without a doubt be better. But they have to mesh and the PG has to be the straw that stirs the drink like Jon did. He was the motor of the team and made it go. I still say Taylor is the biggest key to making it happen. If he steps in and plays with confidence and aggression from day one like Jon did, when he first arrived, we are set for sure.

  • Most on here with a brain who have followed Bennett at all know exactly what it means.

It means he has lost 80lbs.  The problem is its the same 5 pounds just that he has lost 16 times.  I have a sister who has lost the SAME 10 pounds all her life.   It's not that people don't LOSE the pounds but rather they FIND them again!!!

  • I still don't see how we can be better than last year.  Guys we have to replace over 50 points a game. Ok let's do it buy committee.  A two man committee will have to score about 25 points a game.  Which two are going to avg 25 points per game.  Ok let's do it with three guys.  Which three guys are going to avg. about 16 per game.  I wish I was as confident as some of you are but I just don't see happening.  I do think we can be decent but just not better than last year.

The three seniors last year averaged 44 per game.  Jon and CJ 37.

Perhaps we could look at it another way, especially since Coach D mentioned this year's team's legitimate size and the fact players will not be playing out-of-position defensively, etc.  Maybe those two factors will allow the Herd to play better defense and not need to average last season's 80pts per game?  Just a thought.

I agree, all they have to do is like behind them and they'll find them again,  :)

Im not worried at all about the points. More concerned at the beginning, getting the engine rolling at PG.  but after today i think Marko can be that guy even if Taylor doesnt get eligible first semester. Marko sees the floor very well. He is going to be hard to keep off the floor as the year goes by. He can flat out play.

I was there today as well. This guy has all the tools. Handles the ball well. Can shoot, but best of all he has great vision. His length could also help him on offense as well as defense.

Agreed. You saw the same as I did when he made some incredible no look passes. Believe me, everyone on the floor with him had better be ready to receive a pass from him at anytime. Just think what it will be when he actually learns the offense!
