HUNTINGTON - For the first time, U.S. News & World Report's "Best Colleges" rankings has recognized Marshall University among the nation's top higher education institutions.

The magazine's 2020 edition, released Monday, placed Marshall among the best 381 schools in the top tier "National Universities" category. Altogether, the magazine ranked about 1,400 institutions.

This marks the first time Marshall has been listed in the "National Universities" category - a direct result of the university's recent elevation to the R2, or Doctoral University: High Research Activity category by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

The publication also ranked Marshall's Brad D. Smith Schools of Business among the country's "Best Undergraduate Business Programs" and ranked the university's engineering program at No. 110 in the country.

  • Excellent news this year on the academic side. I hope the student recruiting office takes full advantage of it.

  • The strides that Marshall has made over the past few years have really been remarkable. The transition from a PUI to an R2 with several nationally recognized departments has been amazing. And it all happened within a relatively short period of time and during financial crunch with little state support. With all of the budget cuts, research and research money is how the university will grow. The improved prestige will only help matters.

It's great news for Marshall and Huntington.

Marshall only has ~ 13,500 students. That number is far too low.

Marshall should have at least 20,000 students at this stage of the game. The school must get much more aggressive in recruiting out of state and out of country students.

    Go Herd!

Nope the plan is to act like it didnt happen. Tell people we aren't the best choice and send them to another college to look into.
