  • and if not, why the hell not?

Who has been practicing with the 1's this week?

We just had a QB throw for zero yards and get zero first downs in the entire second half playing against, NOT CLEMSON, but another (albeit really good) G5 opponent. Will any other QB do that this year against any team? FCS QB's have fared better against Alabama. Think about that!

IG's mechanics are awful (well documented), but the passing ability just isn't there, and to top it all off he isn't a great runner (AT beats him in that). What is the redeeming value in continuing to start IG?

  • I hope we put in a lot of ohio install before and into the preseason and have added new wrinkles since.  We have a huge ol, biggest in years.  Pound the rock.  Play the young wr's.  Stretch Gaines in the passing game and our other TE too.  Stretch the field and pound the rock.  Drag the middles and push the boundries.

Would guarantee he would have more yards at Boise then Green did!

  • I mean tripping over the line of scrimmage will get you 2 yards.

My 2 year old son can throw it a yard.

How in the world did we not get 1 yard???

I bet the DC C team QB could have passed for 10 yards on them over a half of football, and probably could have ran it for 20...and at that level most of those kids have far better mechanics than IG.

I was thinking yesterday, how does a coach get to this level and not know how to make (half time) adjustments? If you play freak'n madden online, you have to make adjustments or you lose. If what you are doing offensively or defensively isn't working against someone in Madden you have to make adjustments. I bet the top 1000 madden players in the US could lead us to a better record in CUSA than Doc.

  • Champ...I always read your posts and most of the time I know what to expect..that being said if MU football causes you this much anger and negativity in your life then why not find something else.  I was very similar to you during the Snyder years and finally came to the realization to enjoy family and friends during the games and trips to Huntington and cheer for MU.

I miss the offenses but it was not too long ago Cato Rockhead had me super excited...if we don’t beat Ohio and win the East then I am fully on board for a coaching change..Doc has won a lot of games but should have won more championships.

I don't agree with everything Champ says, but he is spot on about IG and not gaining a yard or a first down. That's the worse "pathetic half of Marshall football" I've ever seen. Even The Young Thundering Herd team of 1971 got first downs.

I’d bet he’d get hit and fumble.

I guess I'm stubborn. I haven't given up that we can't be a Boise type program...heck we are no where close to having an NIU type program (5 years of 11 plus wins and an Orange Bowl).  And it kills me that we are not; with our history, with our story, with our fan support, and with the start we got off to in the MAC...we were Boise before Boise was Boise. We have a freak'n movie about us, that when it plays on a cable TV station... people from around the world talk about us on twitter for 4 hours. And it just seems like the Dark Snyderday era has squandered all that...all of the hard work other players and coaches put in over 30 years to bring us to national prominence. Embarrassing blow out losses at home. Giving program defining games away in the last moment. Not taking care of business when we've had 6 and counting CUSA championships served up to us on a silver platter. We let fans leave by the thousands and don't seem to care. Not gaining a yard or first down in a half. That is not Marshall football...those are stats that only a place that doesn't care about football would have.

I grew up on campus and around many of the players and students. I guess Marshall Football and MU sports in general is ingrained in who I am...and as much as they drive me crazy at times (all the time with Doc) I just can't totally give up. I can't settle for us turning into Kent. Or Bowling Green. Or even Ohio. Can't do it. Won't do it. I can't settle for us turning into a place were football doesn't matter.

This is too special of a place (imo) for it to be merely just a social gathering on game days and not about winning championships. If that does happen, boy have we let so much potential slip through our fingertips. To have it all and let it all slip away...is so much worse than just never having anything. That's just my opinion.

And I totally agree...over the last decade it has been an unhealthy obsession. But that's why we are called Fan(s)atics.

  • Champ you just gave the best response possible that I can fully appreciate .. I too bleed green as I went to the freshman games with my dad when I was 4 years old at Fairfield and my family is very ingrained historically with MU... I guess part of me is afraid that if we let 8 win Doc go we can go back to 4 win Snyder and not a 10 win exciting Byron Leftwich as coach..

  • AT did look a lot better this year and IG in addition to our whole offense did not adjust well against a good team last, but IG is simply our best QB. Nothing we can do about last week, can't win them all, I think IG will get better and i'm still behind this team! Go herd! (Hope to see Obi this week)

Fear paralyzes. I’d much rather fail trying to achieve the maximum than settle for decent. Bring on the 4 win seasons here or there if it means we won’t settle for 8-4.

Problem was the 4 win season was the norm and not split with 10 win seasons under Snyder...I think people forget how un organized Snyder teams were..we got smashed at home against FCS teams.

  • ya, it takes balls to bitch and tear down a team a week before first snap, after a second game.

take protests signs to campus calling for Doc's firing if you want to make change instead of constant pissing from behind your keyboards

Yes, and Snyder was around way too long. No way he should’ve made it past 2007.
