Obinna, Jonatis or both?

  • How awesome would this be to be able to lure them both.  I really love the motor on both of these guys!  I will be happy with either one if we can’t get both.  However, I’m leaning towards Jonatis.  I feel like he can be the force to operate our style of play and isn’t just one dimensional.  Thoughts?

  • If its only one, Obinna. You can't coach 6-9.

Actually, your right to a degree. But you also can’t teach quickness. You can’t teach a guy to jump and hit his head on the rim.So that kind of works both ways.

  • I’d like both, but if I have to pick one I’ll take the one with offers from Cincinnati, New Mexico, Dayton, Drexel, Kent State, Temple, George Mason, Robert Morris, ODU, USF, Evansville, Rhode Island, VCU, Penn State, Temple, Ohio, ETSU, Akron, and Marshall; who happens to be a position of need in a couple of years. I figure those coaching staffs know more about D1 talent than I do.

The other one, while he passes the eye test, appears to only have a conditional offer from Marshall at this point.

Like I said, i’d prefer to have both but the above info is factual.  There is no question of which is considered the better recruit at this moment in time.

Precisely. That is exactly why Danny has the offer on the table for Obinna.  He will give him a time deadline to give a commitment and then move on to Rob if we don't get it.

  • I still say both. It will work itself out. It is a business and you always should look to get better? You can always find a kid a place and education. But that is JMO!!!

  • Give me both.  DD goes to another level as a recruiter if he lands both.  Anyone know if that Jonatis could be a PG at the D1 level?  Having a 6-5 PG who can touch the rim with his head gives us more length on defense and rebounding.

  • I am sorry but can someone inform me who Jonatis is? I know Obimna is legit and someone who would be amazing to get and probably one of the best players on the team, but Jonatis doesn’t even have a recruting page I can find why are people high on him?

You can teach that if you are that fast, quick and athletic. If he couldnt move then i would be concerned. Danny said he would be the fastest kid on the team now and he can get his head to the rim.

  • An explosive athlete can get better at defense if he wants to.

  • That’s what we have been lacking under Coach D. Elite athletes.  Guards who finish at the rim. Get to hole and finish rather than trick shot layups.  Get both.

  • We are only looking at his offensive skills and not how he performs during and entire game.  When I first looked at Alexa Nickolic's videos I thought he was the next coming of Pistol Pete.  How come no one else has offered this kid?  I am not trying to put the kid down but just questioning overall skills based on a single video.

Look at Goran? Or stevie Browning? Jon elmore had a VMI offer. Sometimes these kids get lost in the shuffle especially from over seas and playing in Ravenswood. Remember Mac MCclung? He started off with very few and exploded. I expect this kid to start getting lots of looks as the year plays out.

I can guarantee that recruiting will pick up for the prep kid.

That’s true ..... after seeing how much better Elmore looked playing zone in the NBA Summer League I think we need to become multi dimensional on defense.
