  • He loves Marshall.  He’s grateful for the Herd. He has a mini Marshall helmet in his locker on ESPN.  The only crew member to display his college helmet. Retire 88!

  • Long overdue. I’m sure 99% would agree he belongs with Frank.

The most important Marshall fan there is, Aaron Perkins, says Randy Moss is “dead to him.” I read it on the forum he used to have, there were only ever 5 people ever on there,  including Aaron himself. Anyway, Aaron said Randy Moss did something anti-Marshall, and as far as he was concerned, Randy Moss was “dead to him.” Aaron refused to say what Randy did, he said there was a video of him being anti-Marshall, but Aaron said it had been deleted so there was no real proof. Ask Aaron what he thinks about Randy.  I wish Aaron would reveal what Randy said or did. He will not tell anyone and I’m thinking maybe Aaron just had a bad dream as Marshall is constantly on his mind.

Moss's number should be retired as soon as it is eligible to be retired. Pennington, Leftwich and Bradshaw (off the top of my head) as well.

If it's already good, then Marshall should make it happen.

    Go Herd!

I’d love to see the kids take ownership of that number. Hardest offseason worker? Most driven on the field and in the community etc. Take advantage of colleges no number rule

  • We should have the only field in the country with a 75 yard line...replacing one or both 25 yard lines.

  • It's very difficult to retire football numbers. You have 100 or more players and only 99 numbers, so you already have duplicates between offense and defense.

Marshall has one qualification (that I'm aware of) to retire a number, you have to be enshrined in the Pro Football HOF. That's why Gatski has the only retired number. Now that Moss has been inducted his number should be retired.

I have a theory as to why it wasn't and believe it's why Aaron no longer likes Moss.  I believe Randy was part of the attempt to get Doc removed after 2016 and get Pruett put back in.  I believe it was also the basis behind the issues the 1996 team had with Hamrick and also the reason Chad dropped his box after that season.

If you have noticed, Chad was constantly around and now you hardly ever see him around.

Anyway, instead of retiring numbers for our greats, we should have a prominent ring of honor.

Very interesting, and makes a lot of sense on what we have seen regarding the inner workings.

I thought that there were different "levels" of number retirement. That is, more like the jersey is retired with special commendation(s) but the number could still be used. So many numbers are needed in football, as you point out. Heck, we already have O and D players with the same number.

Hamrick has done a great job with facilities and I suppose that entails fundraising as well. But just being my stubborn self, I won't miss him when his time to move on eventually comes. Whether we are in the AAC then or not.

Agree. There is no excuse not to have a ring of honor on the press-box with just their last name and number.

  • I was told that retiring football numbers is very rarified air and that until other unofficial criteria is met, Marshall won’t even consider retiring a players number. Of which was induction into the Pro football HoF. Moss has that, along with Gatski.. yet still no retirement for Moss. It should, without question, be done in the near future.

We have several players inducted into the College Football HoF, but apparently that isn't good enough. This is where I disagree, a player’s pro career has ZERO bearing on the greatness and impact of their Herd career.

Just do like Va Tech and many other schools and retire the jersey, and on those uber special instances, retire the number altogether.
