  • Here are some interesting facts about the Herd's run defense from the Cincinnati Enquirer:  Utilizing just their front-four down linemen and three linebackers in the box, Marshall has actually kept their opponents to a net loss in terms of expected points added and made a defensive stop on more than 55% of those snaps, the highest run-stop percentage in their conference.

All that being said, the reason Michael Warren will be even more critical to this game’s outcome is simply because the run-blocking ahead of him, to date, is actually the lowest-graded FBS opponent that Marshall will have faced this season. Both Boise State and Ohio University have posted significantly higher team run-blocking grades than Cincinnati has through four weeks of action, and for Marshall to do what they have against those offensive lines speaks to how well they are stopping the run so far.

High expectations, high results. Low expectations, low results.

By the way, don't buy too much into any prediction that there is any problem with the Oline of UC, remember they played UCLA and Ohio State, pretty good competition for the offensive line.  If our oline isn't rated higher performance against our competition than theirs, we'd be VERY suspect.  They'll be ready and we'll do well to stop their inside run. But they take the run outside VERY quickly, a lot of read options for their QB, and he'll through from that set on the run.

Don’t fall into the trap of elevating a team just because of the conference patch on their jersey. UCLA is in the bottom 25% of the country, OR WORSE, in team defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, and team sacks. They are not a good defensive football team and if Cincys o-like struggled in that game it bodes well for us.

Me too...while the CGM was truly alive & Doug Smock was the beat writer/columnist for them, I thought the coverage was very good to be in a region with the demographics.

Yeah, no.  They actually put together a real game plan and executed it.  We did post-bye week Doc ball.  Oline rankings don't matter, nothing matters when you can't even prepare for a team, with two weeks, enough to move the ball a little.
