  • Jon Elmore is interviewed by The Basketball Tournament (TBT) hosts about the upcoming $1 million winner-take-all TBT.  I believe all these tournament games will be televised, in July, on ESPN forums
    .
Many former MU players will be on the team, e.g., Burks, Browning, Watson, etc.  Jon talks a little about his pro experience and he talks a lot about how his "Herd That" team will shoot a lot of three pointers and play fast, sans defense.  The goal of "Herd That" is like so many Marshall teams and that is to just outscore all their opponents.  As Jon said, he hopes "Herd That" will score the most points in TBT history.  The interview is about 28 minutes and the last 10 minutes of the interview it kinda goes downhill but I enjoyed listening to all of it.

  • Believe the Field for this year's tourney has been reduced to 24 teams overall, down from 48 last year.  Tourney will be played at one site (Columbus ?).

Not sure if the Herd That team is sure of a slot quite yet.  I believe the 24 team field will be announced on Wednesday.  Also, I think I heard that this year's prize/pay out for the winners has been reduced to $1 million, down from 2 mil.

  • Here's an article that talks about Jon, Ot, and Gay Elmore.  Gay talks about coaching his two sons in the TBT.  It's a good read.

You are right Coalherd this year's event offers a $1 million payout to the winning team versus $2 million as in year's past.  I changed the amount in my original post.

  • The Wiki article doesn't say they're confirmed to be in the tourney yet and is still referring to the 64 team format with regions.

The team's Twitter account seems to imply it's up in the air whether or not they make it.

That is simply a list of alumni teams that have applied.  There's no source that Herd That is verified...

Although I suspect the Team GM's know.... The St. Bonaventure alumni team was in an uproar on twitter yesterday that they were not selected for the tournament.

  • HERD versus the Chickeneers, Part ???

According to Metro News, Herd team will also have players from UAB, MTSU and Pitt.  Looks like team will be guard and outside play oriented and will definitely be at a disadvantage, size/height wise.

Jon picked up a couple of thorns in our side players. Getting Chris Cokley and JaCorey Wiliams. I didn't think Cokley would ever leave UAB and as we all remember Williams graduated from Arkansas as a starter and became the CUSA player of the year at MTSU. Zach Smith from Texas Tech and Ryan Luther from Arizona will add some muscle underneath. That has always been a weakness on our TBT teams in the 2 previous years

  • Penava couldn’t play so they added some bigs from outside MUBB family. Ryan Taylor really the only MUBB with any size on roster. Heckuva honor to be chosen for field.

  • I am a big fan of the TBT. Find it much more entertaining than the Big3 league.

Hope it continues to grow and be a thing.

  • Looks like CJ Burks did not make the trip to Columbus, and he's been removed from the team's roster on the TBT website.

  • Hope Burks absence is not COVID related.  I thought if any team player tested positive for the virus the whole team was disqualified.  That's what knocked the WVU team out of the tourney.

I'm guessing, but I'd think whether a person had been with the team or not would determine how a positive test would affect a team's eligibility.  If a player was tested and found to have Covid before meeting with the team, I would hope it wouldn't disqualify the entire team.  On the other hand if the entire team walked into the testing facility together and one of them were to test positive, then I'd expect the whole team to be disqualified.

Of course all this is just speculation, we don't know why Burks isn't playing.
