  • Marshall's School of Medicine has cancelled its largest annual scholarship event planned for Saturday, September 19th due to concerns about the Corona virus.  This event, staged OUTDOORS, usually attracts around 500 or so supporters and last year raised about $120,000 for Med. School scholarships.

That date is, by the way, the same day that MU football is suppose to play the OU Bobkitties up in Athens, OH.

Beginning to believe that the 2020 collegiate football season, or at least the start of and early few games of, are in increasing jeopardy with each passing day.

There is not going to be college sports this year. Nobody is willing to stand up and be the one that gets blamed for someone getting sick or even one death. Everyone is terrified of being vilified. It’s easier to just shut down and drop things.

Agree, risk is toooooo large. Without (unfortunately specifically developed) liability issues being address, we're most likely dead to all publiclly funded events.

  • 1) I'm guessing that the median & mean average ages of the expected attendees has something to do with the decision.

    2) The people responsible are actual medical pros or scientists.

Not arguing, but the coordinator is a professional "development" (fund raiser) who has been working with Marshall fund raising in some capacity for more than 30 years.

Me neither. But IMO, it's more than likely that he/she ran the scenerio by the pros and they advised against holding the event.

  • I agree that football is unlikely, but I am still planning on attending if they play.  To be honest, I have some concerns about that based on some of the opinions expressed on the board.  If the Herd plays, I will be there, but I am wearing a mask.  I don't think I would want to go to a fundraiser.  All of my PAC and professional meetings are virtual for now.
