  • Saw this ,6"10 Forward from Rock Hill SC offered by Danny. From film I've seen on him appears to be a athletic big who can shoot. With his length would be a nice get.

My only concern is he looks very thin. As a friend pointed out to me however so was Ajdin when he came and he worked out just fine

  • There's limited film, but I like this kid. He has a sweet stroke for a kid that size. I'm sure with a little work from DD and staff, this kid could end up being BIG TIME in our system. He can't go play in most other systems, but he fits our system great.

  • I agree, the ability of this kid is evident, why would Danny offer if he didn't think he could fit in and contribute

  • in the first couple/few yrs just about every one of us were screaming for bigs who could go toe to toe on D and O and i think most people were thinking in the paint more so than shooting threes.  putting a body on players and blocking shots.  so, in Danny's system, what order of importance would you place on the skills/abilities concerning forward/centers?  all are important, but it's rare to get all; for instance, D and blocking, rebounds, pick and rolls/alley oops/similar, finishing/dominance at the basket, mid and long range shooting, running the floor/endurance, passing/assists, toughness/doggedness?

I still think to compete with the big boys and become a national player you have to have somebody that can play D and rebound. You can get by in CUSA and most other mid majors but against Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, And other top programs you can’t get destroyed inside. Not saying you have to have a 7’  270 guy but a guy that can body up and rebound. Now it’s great if that guy can step out and drain a 3 also. It’s just hard to find both. That is why you take a guy like Peneva with skill and hope he fills out. This kid looks like he has a lot of that also.

He wouldn't.  He sees things in kids most of us don't. He tells us he always projects where he thinks they'll be

Never forget When Peneva first got here. They were practicing in Gullickson. Danny pointed at him and said, see that kid there? He will be one of the best that will ever play here. You could see the skill. Sweet stroke for 6’9” and had tremendous instincts and could really handle it for a big. But he was just skinny as a toothpick. Had he stayed his last year it’s scary how good he could have been. Danny looks for skilled bigs that may be overlooked because they are thin. That is why he likes 4-5 year guys. He thinks he can take them and teach them the system as they fill out for a couple years and then you have a Danny type big to run his system.

Somebody who is 6'9" and 17 or 18 years old will no doubt put on some weight, hopefully much of it "muscle", with whatever strength and conditioning program his college has.  That and the natural changes that will occur while growing "older" while in college 4 or 5 years.  Say what you may, but I'll bet that Coach Danny will tell anyone who will listen that you can't coach and teach "height"!!

Exactly. If we can get guys like this, redshirt them, then we can develop them. We have Goran right now who will be a sophomore so we can definitely redshirt this kid. Then in two years try to find another kid like him and redshirt him etc etc.

  • Anyone know if this current season will count eligibility wise against our team?  Any chance West, Williams, Beyers get another year if they want?

    Maybe JReese knows?

If not..we need another point guard.  Saw where the only one we had offered...jace carter, committed to UIC the other day.

Anyone have any news on how the last year or two of "pro" ball has gone for Penava over there in Uzbekistan, Outer Slovenia, Inner Slobovia, or is it Absurdistan??

His contract in Spain ended. He has already begun a new season. He is now in one of the former eastern block countries. In talking with him he believes his playing time will increase. The coach there likes to play more the style Ajdin played here at Marshall.  I haven't spoken to him since the season has begun

Losing a recruit to UIC?  Wow, what are they, in the Horizon League?  Not too far off than say being out recruited by a Mountain East team!  :)

We have not heard anything about eligibility yet. I HAVE heard a rumor that we have already lost our game against covid... I mean Kentucky.
