Reds with several young players who have talent but are seriously flawed in certain fundamentals, IMO.

Acquino needs to be back in Double A ball, learning the damn "STRIKE ZONE".  Needs a good, professional batting coach to do some serious work with him individually.  Reds "base running" as a whole leaves a lot to be desired and that is all on BELL and his staff.  Despite positive experience of making it to the playoffs in this shortened season, REDS are a long, long way from being a serious contender for any titles and crowns, despite the strength in pitching!

The Reds should fire David Bell today. This team is talented with no fundamentals at all. He starts Farmer at SS and then pulls our catcher for a PH. Now all we have left is Farmer at backup catcher and he can’t PH for Barnhart who couldn’t hit at the babe Ruth level. Farmer swings at one over his head and strikes out and then Galvis comes up and watches 3 down the middle. That was the most sad unproctive offense today that I have ever seen. Multiple times guys on 1 and 3 or bases loaded and no outs or 1 out and couldn’t play small ball and get a run across.

In this day and age of "hyper analytics" when teams keep stats on EVERY function including, apparently, how often the team's starting position players go to the Head in a nine innings game, I would like to know the following stats about the current Reds team:  How many times per 9 innings do Reds batters strike out swinging at a BALL, normally one that is outside anywhere from 3 inches to a foot off the plate (think Aquino) and; how many times in a 9 innings game do Reds batters strike out taking a CALLED THIRD STRIKE on pitches right down the heart of the plate?

I'd be willing to make a small wager that if such stats were/are kept, they would reveal that the Reds are at the VERY TOP of said categories, or at least the top 3, in the National League, if not in ALL of MLB!!

Bauer was absolutely dominating. What a shame that you have that kind of dominance and can’t score one run with multiple chances. The most undisciplined and lack of fundamentals I have ever seen. Fire Bell!!!

Agree except with the last statement, herdorbust.  You never know, the Reds may win the next game or two.  Heck, if they win this wildcard series, the Reds could even give Bell a "contract extension"!  Especially if they happen to have a "Mike Hamrick" type serving as their General Manager!  :D

This doesn't apply just to the Reds, but it certainly applied to them today and the broadcast crew were talking about it a good bit: Whatever happened to the bunt?  Do they even teach it anymore in the minor leagues?

Yes they could because of talent. But that doesn’t take away from Bell being pathetic. They will never be as good as they can be with him running the show.

Bell made a lot of unnecessary moves during that game, someone mentioned pinch hitting for Casali, leaving Barnhart as the only true catcher.  Somehow Aquino made it through the whole game without being pinch-hit for, while players like Winker and Akiyama get pulled from the game.  He made so many moves that in the 13th he was left with a choice between Jankowski, who was brought in to pinch run for Winker, which didn't make sense, and Garcia to hit with the bases loaded and two out.  BTW, wouldn't it have been a better use of Jankowski to have pinch run for Votto when he was on 2nd and couldn't score on a single to left?  But Bell had already wasted using Jankowski by that time.  IMO, Bell relies too much on analytics and doesn't balance that with managing by instinct and using common sense.

He isn’t even a good babe Ruth league manager. His lineups are all over the place. He makes more head scratching moves than a bad case of dandruff. Riggleman was 10 times the baseball mind than Bell. And yes having Votto on second and not having a pinch runner was pathetic since Votto runs about like I walk. It’s just hard to even get behind this team. Maybe talent alone can get it done.🙄🙄
