  • The thing looks terrible. Is a gray shade of green (if that is possible)...and is shedding like a dog.

They put filters on the feed to make it look green on TV.

  • It’s 7 years old. The previous FieldTurf lasted 9 years.

It could perhaps be under a manufacturer warranty. Our soccer stadium got new turf last year because the prior turf was deemed defective.

The coloring isn’t really a factor but the shedding is certainly concerning.

  • I think the turf is 9 or 10 years old..also noticed at the game we need to replace as it looks very worn.

Yeah I'm wondering how there will be any left after another season. We have more field turf on us after getting up than we would natural grass.

  • Said it before...I hope we get a little creative with the next turf. Alternating shades of green every 5 yards. I think we should have a 75 yard line between the 20 and 30 on each end.

  • Is the turf really that old? I have a big piece of the old stuff in my garage that I bought at the Restore. I think they put the new stuff prior to the 2014 season.

The color of green looks like normal color of green in person  I have seen games on TV and looks the same.  I have seen our turf look a lot worse than ours.

Saying that I have noticed how much it seems to be “shredding” this year.  I don’t know when it is scheduled to be replaced but it can’t be too many years.  It could be a dollars and cents thing in the next budget year.  Donations are down and scholarships still have to be paid for.  If we can’t get people that can donate then scholarships will have to be paid for elsewhere.  I can’t imagine the true making it much longer.

  • The current Edwards Stadium turf was replaced prior to the 2014, meaning this is the 7th season of the current surface.

I have always liked that alternating green look.

  • I noticed on TV that the white shirts that MTSU were wearing were coved with what looked to be shreds of grass clippings

  • While watching other teams play on TV this fall, I've seen quite a few fields shedding.

I like the idea of the 75 yard line designation.

I've never been a fan of the alternating shades of green. In the past, it always seems that the lighter shade is too close to an olive green color, instead of looking like a more common shade of green grass.

Maybe the new turf can have a black color base in the end zones with Marshall in white with a kelly green outline. That would pop.

  • Anyone think that perhaps Mike Hamrick may be waiting until CUSA and Commish Judy and her crack staff negotiate the League's new TV/Media contract which I think is up in a couple of seasons.  Perhaps Mike has more faith in Judy and the gang to negotiate a better deal which means more $$$$$ for the conference schools. And maybe Mike is just hoping with fingers crossed that the stadium turf can endure another couple of seasons of play. Additional funds from the new contract, if forthcoming, that could be directed to facilities repairs/upgrades like the stadium turf.

Nope. This is the 7th season on it. Put in prior to 2014 season.

  • Change it out with the move to the AAC.

Also, I’ll see if I can search the last thread we had on it.

Need to get creative with the next design. Big time.

Rubber pellets, not clippings.  The field gets "vacuumed" but not cut and the blades of 'grass' don't shear off.  The rubber pellets coming up and sticking to clothing is actually normal.

Turf turds - that's the soccer term for them. LOL!

We all know what the rubber pellets look like. There are blades of the turf shedding and coming off sticking to the players. These aren't pellets, they looked like strands to me...there should be video of this.

  • I agree the new turf needs a little more pop. The end zones and mid-field logo should both be kelly green, not blend in with the rest of the grass.

Marshall on one end, Thundering Herd on the other with white type, outlined in black. Love the 75 idea too.

I agree, what I saw looks like blades of grass on the uniforms, not pellets.  Plus, with the Herd wearing their black uniforms in that game you wouldn't have been able to see black pellets on them and I definitely saw Wells get up a few times with something sticking to the back of his uniform.

  • It wasn’t the black pellets .  It was the turf”blades” that were sticking to the uniforms of MTSU. We are in 2nd row behind visiting teams. It looked like they were playing on natural grass when they came to sidelines.
