  • You may be surprised that some would rather take 800k to be in charge of their own team.
I would be utterly shocked if someone gave up 1.6 mil for 800k just to run their own program.

  • Clemson OC can stay there until getting a P5 HC job

This is our man!!!!  We need a complete retooling.

Lance Leipold at Buffalo / 400-500k there / uses weapons / scores lots of points / knows how to grind on defense too / knows the total game of football like Pruett did  / 4th youngest team in NCAA in 2016-2017 and improved each year after - now Top 25 / within last 3 years has had top passing and rushing teams in the MAC / he understand how to play to his teams strengths / not a square peg in round hole coach like we have had since Pruett left

    https://ubbulls.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/lance-leipold/241

The Bulls featured an explosive offense in 2017 that ranked second in the Mid-American Conference, averaging 432 yards per game and led the MAC with 291 passing yards per outing. UB’s 5,183 yards of total offense were the third most in school history for a single season. The Bulls produced 20 plays of 45 yards or more and those 20 plays came from 10 different players.

Buffalo posted key wins against Conference USA Champion Florida Atlantic as well as a nine-win Ohio team. The Bulls finished the season with three straight wins for the first time as an FBS program. In addition, UB’s six losses were by a total of 29 points, including two one-point losses and a three-point, seven-overtime loss.

In 2016, Leipold led a very young squad, featuring 42 new players. The Bulls were the fourth most inexperienced team in the nation. Buffalo earned impressive wins over Army (a bowl team) and Akron. Buffalo had four players named to the All-MAC team.

In 2015, his first with the Bulls, Leipold led UB to a 5-7 mark. He became the first UB head coach to win five games in his first season since Bob Deming went 6-3 in 1969.

The rest they say is history, better each year and now Top 25 program.

He’ll wait for a P5 job. Not sure if he would view our job a big step up for an extra 300K or so a year.

  • Agree 100%. For some reason after Donnan/Donovan left we got into this mentality that it had to be a Marshall guy or not do a real search, just hire the AD's buddy. We need to go back to how we use to do it.... Set up a committee and hire the best available candidate for the job.
Not real accurate in basketball. White and D'Antoni are the only Marshall alum. I think Jones may have gotten his masters here while an assistant. But, of the 5 coaches since Donovan, D'Antoni and White have actually done the best job here, with Jones right behind them.

But, I get your point and hope when Doc leaves we do a nationwide search.

  • I'd rather go with someone like Clemson's offensive coordinator that has great ties to recruiting and have been around a winning program..
The OC of Clemson will go to a big program not a CUSA school.

true, but "marshall alum" wasn't the only criteria he included.  jones was heralded as a marshall guy--was an asst here for several yrs/Pt Pleas native/wife from salt rock--his hire was def marketed as 1 of our own "coming home."  midland included "AD's buddy," that fit herrion.

About same score WKU smoked the Herd.  Had Brohm stayed WKU would dominate the East every year.

    That tells me -

Marshall brass doesn’t want to put more money into football
Marshall AD knows our fan base is aging and doesn’t care to grow the fan base.
Marshall brass knows we are in CUSA forever and content with winning seasons more often than not and a minor bowl - lower expectations.

Lambert seems like an awesome guy but should not be the HC at Marshall

If so then I totally give up for even having hope for the football program.
