Topic: HERD Question, how bad is the COVID problem in MU Athletics?

Just how prevalent has the virus become in Marshall Athletics?  Given the veil of secrecy that has surrounded Herd athletics in normal times, has that "veil" been used to cover up the extent of the virus problem?  We've already seen the cancellation of the Charlotte football game due to the vague "lack of a sufficient number of available players" or something thereabouts.

Now I just noticed on the "Herd Zone" web site that the Marshall women's basketball game at St. Bonaventure has been cancelled.  Not only that, but the team's home game with Morehead State later this week is also shown as "cancelled"!  Is the problem with the two opponents' teams, or is it with MU's?  Or, perhaps, both?  Just hope that something more will come out about the situation and that we are just not all left in the dark to wonder and speculate about the nature and extent of the COVID virus within the MU Athletics Department!

We know of the 2 basketball players positive causing shutdown. We know of a few football players. We know of a baseball shutdown a couple months ago. We know that Holderby Hall has plenty rooms full if quarantine students

Wonder if we really get a chance to play next Friday against UAB?  How soon would the AD need to call the game; hopefully early, because if not us, I'd love to see the two teams actually get some time to prepare for each other.   In that regard, bet FAU is prepping for UAB right now, why not?  And maybe UTSA is prepping for MU, who knows.

But the school can't say officially and that's why there is such a veil of secrecy that people complain about. The school can't say anything without risking legal ramifications and lawsuits out the ying yang.

Agree. It has been reported by the HD when both men and women were shut down as the reason why. Obviously why else would yiu shut down 14 days in the season? All schools report that. Just no athlete names. Again,  when you see a particular football player misses 2 consecutive games we pretty much know

Hippa, privacy laws and concerns and whatever, its obvious that there are a lot of ways of "communicating" with the public, fan bases and the like which apparently escape or are beyond the comprehension and abilities of our athletic "leaders".

Example, PRIOR to tonight's bitter rivalry game with cross state foe, Virginia, Virginia Tech issued a release indicating that 16 players, 8 on Offense and 8 on Defense would be out of the game due to injuries and COVID related issues, either positive tests or quarantining.  Most of the players names were listed, although no specifics about ANY individual player were given.  The release noted that in all but 2 of their games this season (10 total) Tech has had at least 10 players out.

Compare that to the "information" Herd fans got when the Charlotte game was called off.  A brief, non specific statement about lacking sufficient numbers of players.  That's it.  Any wonder people question such actions on message boards?  Perhaps that wouldn't be the case, or necessary, if our "leaders" opted to keep fans, supporters, the media, the general public, enlightened and informed, to the extent possible, rather than "in the dark". 

Then, again, obvious that VA Tech has quality in its Athletic Department leadership; Marshall, well . . . .
