  • Panthers have decided to cancel their final two non conference games (Wisconsin and Marshall).  They were scheduled to play at Marshall next Saturday. Herd is actively looking for an opponent for next weekend.

  • Northern Iowa has had a tough start and their best player is out. Green is now out for the year. Kind of shitty they would cancel because their best player is out. They better come here next year.

  • It looks like our overall W/L record might be pretty good this year.  Find an easy W that will count.

Some talk today of going to Athens next Saturday to play the Bobcats again. They are home Friday vs Mississippi Valley.  Conference play or them begins next Tuesday

  • MAC play has already begun.  Conference web site indicates BG has a solid record to date, 4-2, second maybe only to Ball State, 5-1.  Yes the Falcons lost to Wright State, not exactly a nobody, and they've lost by 14 at a very good Michigan.  They've already beaten a good Buffalo team in MAC play, and beat Appy State on the road.  Just hope we try and get a D1 opponent, close by if possible, for the next week end:  try Morehead, EKU, Radford, VMI, James Madison, Akron again, BG (Falcons are idle, per schedule, until Dec. 30th when they play Kent).  Try Duquesne, Robert Morris, St. Francis of PA, East Tenn.  All reasonable travel distance from Huntington.

Would love to see JMU.  We played them once or twice early in DD's time here then haven't played them again.  Good all around program with an impressive  new  court.  Seems like a good opportunity to develop or improve a possible budding relationship with a natural regional rival school.

Yes, they opened their new $100 million plus basketball digs this season.  Were suppose to have UVA in for one of their first games but pandemic got it, like our games with XU, UK and VA Tech.  They're not having fans, or very few, for games currently.  Easy trip down I-64 to Lexington, VA, and then barely an hour from there up I-81 to Harrisonburg; probably 3 and a half hours or so from Huntington.

Only an hour from my place in Pendleton County.  If such a game were played, I'd try to make that one.

Unless its changed the VA governor announced no live crowds. I had planned going to the ODU weekend before that order

  • Play an easy W game.  We just need W's.  It will be like football, more W's early season the better chance of getting into polls earlier.  Schedule light and keep going undefeated.  Not a normal year.  W's look better than anything else right now.

  • Is Kentucky Christian play ball this fall/winter?  Maybe we can book em to come to the CAM this week end.  Perhaps Coach D can use the game to have his players work on the basic fundamentals of man to man defense!!

  • Coach D indicates, doesn't announce, possible replacement game for Northern Iowa, probably on Sunday.  Per Steve Cotton, will come out on Herd Zone, if a game is definitely found!!

Danny knew at the time of the interview. It was pretty much known by 10am Wednesday but not signed until during the game Wednesday night. At the time of the interview Danny had not been informed of the signing since he was a little busy at the time.

I believe this is a good move by our ADepartment...i.e., Robert Morris replacing NIU and imo, this is a program and area we need to cultivate...

No quick bandwagon.  Team has been characterized with porous, loose man to man defense for much of 7 seasons now!  Some new tactics might be in order.  Say, an occasional ZONE defense at times!  Or  teaching and emphasizing the basics of SWITCHING in the man to man (may want to repeatedly show films of the D Toledo played on Wednesday).  Of course, if you have been watching with your eyes closed, it wouldn't be clear to you,

Haven't you seen this team. First 4 games, 2 on the road and average opponent FG percent is 38%. Ohio came in shooting over 50%  Toledo shot 45%
Do you think defense didn’t have something to do with that?

Did you see the Toledo stats?  Slaughtered on second chance points and or points in the paint.  Beaten solidly on the board.  Also, they got a lot more points off of turnovers than did the HERD.  All those have some correlation to how effectively each team played D.  FG % is certainly not the only measure of defensive ability or effort.  We still are PATHETIC on interior switching in Danny's "vaunted" man to man D and that hasn't changed.  Knowing where your man is and playing tight D in the paint is also a good factor in how well a team is in defensive rebounding!  Oh, those 96 points from Toledo, including 16 in a 5 minute overtime, tell me all I need to know about our "defense".
