That’s what we said about Rice. UAB will be more physical than us, you can count on that. We don’t respond well to being punched in the mouth.

I didn't mean it in a good way.  Extra prep time will not matter.  We will run the same schemes and hope they work.   If Rice used same D scheme against UAB as they did against us ...... UAB offense has adjusted to that so don't try that one.  On D UAB will work what Rice did against us.  We will try new stuff early but not enough for a full game, then panic and try throwing rest of game once behind.  We better hope UAB is missing a gear.

  • Bill Clark is a good coach. I’d never count them out. Gave our 2014 team a run for its money.

They scored enough against Rice to win.  What did we do?

    Rice 20
    Marshall 0
    In Huntington

    UAB 21
    Rice 16
    In Houston

I count 25 points comparing scores and six points in home field differential from where the two games were played.  31 points. Take three points away from that for playing in Huntington on Friday.  28 points.  That's four touchdowns.  How can we be favored by 5.5?

  • Gonna need the defense in this one. Turnovers and possibly a score. Herd is gonna have their hands full and UAB is a hungry bunch.

No, but he/Cramsey could have made adjustments to the play calling, routes we were running, sat Grant down a series to calm him down. Let Gaines run the wildcat more often, etc.  We just kept doing the same things like nothing happened. jmho.

I can make the opposite argument by looking at results in Ruston two weeks apart:

    La Tech 37, UAB 34
    Herd 35, La Tech 17

If college football outcomes were easily predicted by the transitive property, it wouldn't be a very fun sport and Vegas would be bankrupt. We clearly weren't ourselves against Rice and this week could easily be an entirely different story.*

    * Please don't take this optimistic comment as a defense of Doc or an excuse for what happened against Rice.

  • Doc didn't throw the interceptions.

You could say that about any team. So coaching doesn’t matter? What about Charlotte last year? What about the 2016 meltdown? What about the collapse at home against WV? Maybe Doc shouldn’t have put Wells in the position to throw 5 pics when you have knox? That is like saying Pete Carroll isn’t to blame for the super bowl loss when he threw at the one yard line. Well he didn’t throw the pass!!!!!

You are correct, trying to prove a point by comparing scores is asinine, you can prove any outcome you wish by doing so.

  • Hitting the deep ball is critical.  They will play the run and press the receivers early.  Hit a couple of deep balls and they have to back out of a full out pressure defense.

Play Woodyard and stretch the defense.  Been thrown to 1 time and has a 50 yard TD

And better running back. Spencer Brown will be a handful. The front 7 will be challenged.
