  • You could say that about any team. So coaching doesn’t matter? What about Charlotte last year? What about the 2016 meltdown? What about the collapse at home against WV? Maybe Doc shouldn’t have put Wells in the position to throw 5 pics when you have knox? That is like saying Pete Carroll isn’t to blame for the super bowl loss when he threw at the one yard line. Well he didn’t throw the pass!!!!!

And maybe, just maybe, one day we'll even find out, if Doc decides to write his "Memoirs", exactly what he and his various O coordinators had against throwing quick slants across the middle of the field, and more than occasional seams routes straight down the field during his MU tenure.  I'll swear, to me, it seems that since he's been here, his offenses have only used about 35 to 40% of the entire field on the vast majority of our pass  patterns/plays!!

You got that right coal. During his speech after being hired as HC he said his offense would use all eleven zones of the field to spread the 'D' out and have the 'O' playing an exciting brand while keeping the 'D' confused as to which zone they will be hitting next. . Of course like his out takes on upcoming games his quotes are all coach speak and he never follows thru with it as the Froh package and etc..

  • We know UAB has a physical D line. We also know they are one of the top pass defenses in the country. They've only given up 1-2 balls of 40 yards plus all year. If they have a weak link on D, it's the linebackers. Knowing they will plan to stop Knox and dare Grant to pass to beat them, what do you do if you're Tim Cramsey?

We better hope our OL is 100% and ready to roll.

yep, as mentioned in other threads, we got trounced on the LOS by Rice on both sides of the ball.  it just goes to show how critical a few linemen can make or break.  it made decision making tough on Wells, sped up the game.  tough to counter on the fly, but yes, it's Cramsey and coaches responsibility to slow the game back down.  this is where, maybe, practicing tempo changes more, aka 'Cato speed' or whatever, to counter.  give credit to a disciplined Rice and Holmgren.  i hope i can say that about Doc after the UAB game.

  • I'm worried about this game. There's no doubt that UAB watched the Rice film and will have a counter against Wells. I just hope the OL is in better shape than that game and can give him a few seconds to connect the deep ball during a blitz to keep them honest.

It seemed like Rice was blitzing virtually every down and the pocket collapsed so quickly, he either threw a deep ball in a panic, or a short route for a loss of yards. It was ugly. Every other game, he was able to connect enough 20+ yard passes, it forced defenses to lay off.

Fatigue them.  Key to beating any football team.  Make them run sideline to sideline and down the field and back.  Hit them first!  Increase Tempo!!  Use multiple backs, go deep in the group!!!  Use Gammage in the slot with Gaines.  Tired of our slow tempo and predictable offense!!!!  We play with 0 sense of urgency.
