  • Next game is against Toledo on Wednesday. Last season, The Rockets came in here and blew us out 96-70. Toledo is looking tough; only lost by three at Xavier.

Littleton was on fire. Better D this year and better focus. Ohio U and Wright St have both looked really impressive and we have won all 4 by double digits. To be truthful, I thought we would probably lose today. I’m starting to believe this team is going to be much better than I thought they could be. Didnt Johns say we would start out 2-7 lol!!!

  • #27  Wow that's an incredible start.  Somewhat similar to Herd football this year.  Just speaking personally for myself, but it's a lot easier to get excited at this point in the season for bball that it was fball because Doc has let us down so often and DD has yet to fold up as the seasons progress.  As they say in the stock markets, past performance is no assurance of future success,  but I'll put my and hopes and money on those with a history of success every time.

Just last Fri. or Sat weren't there very similar posts on the up coming Ohio game?  We're probably going to drop a few games, but I'm going into every bball with postive expectations. I've already moved beyond football for this year.

Agree. We can win every game left on our schedule. But I’m sure there will be a let down or two. Bad shooting night or something. But we have 2 kids leading us that are very focused and have a HUGE passion for the game, West and Kinsey. They both eat and breath basketball. And if Andy starts bringing it every night it’s going to be a fun season.

  • Bust, the RPI folks agree with you.  If this projection was to play out we are talking a Top Ten NCAA Tournament seed!

    Projected Record:       24-1 (17-1)
    Projected RPI Rank:     17
    Projected SOS Rank:   217

  • As of today, Toledo is 4-3.  Next opponent after them, again right now, UNC-Asheville is 3-2.  IMO I hope we can get a replacement game for Northern Iowa next week end.  Still hope Herd stays in touch with Akron re: any possibility of making that game up.  Not sure if team remains on campus/in town over the Holidays; a possibility given all the COVID cautions, warnings, etc.  Seems like if they remain in town, we could possibly squeeze a game in on Monday, Dec. 28th or even on the 29th, before going to LA Tech for opening conference games on Jan. 1st and 2nd!

  • I believe now we can beat any team on our schedule, including WKU. I never said otherwise. But Toledo last season beat us twice by double figures. So like Wright State and Ohio, I’m very much looking forward to this game. Fingers crossed there is a game.

So far, our defense, focus and depth is the best I’ve seen from Dan’s team in the early season. Like football, basketball has gotten off to a fast start. I’m anxious to see how far they can go.

  • Last season this team was trying to fill in the scoring vacuum left by Burks and John. In the second half , we started to adjust and find our roles.

This season roles are more defined, Jarrod and Kinsey have planted their roles to lead this team, plus several pieces are added as well.

Ashville has a pretty good local kid from Tolsia in Coty Jude. Tall, long and can shoot the lights out when he is hot. I think Marshall recruited him out of HS but thought he needed a year of prep school to be D1 ready. He went to prep school but coming out of there ended up at UNCA not sure if we recruited him coming out of prep or not.

We have now won 7 in a row after winning last 3 last season and the 4-0 start this season.

  • This team has weapons and if needed I believe Kinsey can get 30 against anyone.  Ohio was a big win as they were a quality opponent and our guys handled them.  This is a year it would have been great to get the Cam rocking for this team.

    Good questions.

How did we, at least yesterday, fall 11 positions after beating OU?

The more I looked at that chart the more it appeared to be questionable and maybe even a little flakey.  None the less it's still nice to see the Herd being recognized.

Certainly not as good a ranking as the other, but probably a lot more realistic.

For time being I'm happy with outside recognition, but far more interesting is having games played and seeing how things turn out later when thngs lke actually cause things to happen.

If you can even predict the next weekend right now, you're a wiser person than me.

  • Here's a good site that lists all of the rankings and compiles a consensus.  MU #79 here, w/ WKU #80.

The RPI is a little weird. The last one I posted seems to be a much better one and more accurate.

In basketball the Wright States, Ohios and Toledos are much better than a Rice football team.  You don't even want to take an L to Rice in football especially a sub .500 Rice squad.

  • It's too early in the year for any computer-based rating system for MBB to be taken very seriously. The sample size is still pretty small.
