With college football's 2020 regular season totally reworked amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it makes sense that its postseason has also been shuffled around. The new format, rebranded officially as "Bowl Season," features an ever-changing number of games culminating with the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 11.

As part of the modified bowl season, a number of games have been canceled. Gone, at least for this year, are 10 bowls: Redbox, Hawai'i, Bahamas, Holiday, Quick Lane, Pinstripe, Sun, Fenway, Celebration, Las Vegas, LA.

Below is the entire remaining Bowl Season schedule with dates, times and network affiliations.

  • Based on dates, timing and what we are seeing with “conference bowls” I would guess it’s a possibility.

Will there be enough ACC teams to fill? At least 4 have punted so far...

Those four are: GT, BC, Pitt, and Virginia.

ACC teams going to a bowl, or most likely to go: Notre Dame, Clemson, UNC, Miami, NC State, Louisville, Wake, and Virginia Tech.

ACC teams in question: Florida State, Duke, and Syracuse.

Bowl games and affiliate conferences will probably have to modify their qualifications for these games.

Gee E, from what I read they've already modified the rules to where there are no requirements for Bowl qualification what so ever.  A totally winless team is bowl qualified this year.  How much more do you want?

There are teams who have opted out and are not going to a bowl game. There's going to be a lot of empty bowls. It would be nice if we could fill in one of these better bowl games that have tie ins to major conferences.

  • Bowls have become a joke.

Actually, the entire system has become a joke because it has been rigged, for many years, to only favor the top teams. A team like Marshall could go undefeated, with say two wins over P5 teams, and still wouldn't get a shot at the playoff, let alone the national championship. So one could ask, why play if you have no shot at the biggest prize?

So knowing that, why not let the "little guys" have a bowl game to cap off their season? It's all about entertainment anyway, so more bowl games means more football for the fans to watch. I don't see a downside to that.

Agreed.  I just don't see where there needs to be any rule changes for that to happen.

What does need to happen is for the Herd to win the C-USA championship.  If this team pulls another Doc Holiday special and is as stout as a water balloon we won't get a good bowl and we won't deserve to have gotten one.

If that is true, maybe it is also a sign the Doc, and his enablers, has finally come to the realization, he isn't going to move any higher in the coaching world, he has gone as far (farther actually) as he is ever going to go and it's time to step back, to step away, and enjoy the life he has left without the stresses and strains of the workaday world.

    Fingers crossed.

I think CUSA pays most Bowl expenses. Or at least they used to.  Doc said on statewide talkline Monday that we were going somewhere to a bowl , he didn’t know where though. Of course he could just not know that we were considering not going to a bowl.

    That's my understanding.

It has often been explained that rather than dividing total bowl money among all conference schools, the conference first pays the expenses of the bowl bound teams, then divides the money among the members.

If Elgin's info is correct, perhaps the expense the Herd is trying to eliminate is the mental blow of adding a second loss to Doc's record as another one of his teams crumbles into the dust.

It doesn't sound like it. Did you see this release put out by Athletics?

Doc Holliday, Marshall Football's all-time leader in games coached and wins over FBS opponents, was named the American Football Coaches Association's FBS Region 4 Coach of the Year Tuesday. Region 4 covers all of Conference USA and the Big 12 Conference.
Tuesday's honor also makes Holliday a finalist for National Coach of the Year.

I know the importance of extra practices and all but I'm really worried that a championship loss might be indicative of the team being done for the year. The team looked fundamentally broken against Rice. I just hope it was a fluke and there isn't any behind the curtain BS going on. If UAB provides a Rice-style beatdown, I'm not sure a bowl appearance would necessarily be a good thing.

Hopefully, Rice was a fluke and provided a learning experience for a young QB. But Marshall football often feels like Groundhog's Day with this sort of stuff.

Yeah, I'm just being obnoxious. I'm actually surprised that herdzone article hasn't appeared here yet. National Coach of the Year finalist and all time winningest Marshall football coach Doc Holliday, bleh...

It's kind of weird no P5 programs are sniffing around one of the greatest college coaches of all time, isn't it?

The league covers bowl expenses.  This year they will be far less. I night hotel stay instead of 4 or 5.
Marshall makes literally a couple thousand dollars in the past.
I would also assume the travel party will be far less. In the past you had the band along with staff spouses, school officials etc.
Today, I consider myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth..

Absolutely false.  I heard Doc expressly say that they'll know which bowl they are going to in the next 2-3 days.

  • For the ACC, BC, Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech have opted out of playing a bowl game. Hopefully, this increases the chances of Marshall, and CUSA, landing one of the ACC empty bowl spots.

I believe there is a Bowl Selection and Playoff Selection show on Sunday, the 20th.  We're surely know then, as I believe all regular season play is over on Saturday, the 19th.
