  • Houston Baptist is the team that had Playstation passing stats every game. They threw for 570 yards and almost beat Texas Tech. Scored over 30 points on all 3 FBS teams they faced this season. 15 passing TD's to 1 INT and 1833 yards in only 4 games.

This guy was Mahomes's QB coach at Texas Tech before going to HBU. Mahomes even put out a statement congratulating him for the new job at WKU.

Sounds like WKU will be adopting a fun aggressive offense. Hope we can keep up.

  • And we WKU has been investing heavily into their S&C staff.  Just hired a young disciple of Sinclair at UGA.

Matter of time before WKU takes over the East ....... our staff will not keep up once new coach gets his people in.  The Athletic Dept yearns for a championship culture.

The same athletic department that is playing for a conference championship Friday night at home and beat WKU on the road this year?

  • Not to tun this into a money thread but we are in a tough spot in Herdnation. Money is drying up, fan base stagnant and aging, State money getting less and less, enrollment stagnant. I can see other schools/ programs passing us by and can't fathom how they do it. Student fee's? More state money?, growing fan base and donations?

I think Mikes done a nice job budget wise, but he or any future AD will have their work cut out for them going forward. jmho

Sure there's budget problems with mid major teams, this is where coaching comes into play. Sounds like wku is staying aggressive with hiring coaches to make the best out of a lower budget. I really hope this is Doc's last home game and he wins out...

We need to be careful about getting ahead of ourselves. After  hearing an  an interview with the WKU football coach earlier my friend and I had the same response, how in the heck did that guy ever become a college head football coach?

I will not matter ...... if he doesn't produce within the next year, maybe two, WKU will cut ties quickly and find somebody else.  WKU is not the patient type in basketball and football.  The school wants championships.

The Hilltoppers sure as hell don't wait around 5-6 years to see if a coach will win a championship.

State college enrollment figures just out this week.  MU's enrollment in the 10,000 plus range, down 500 since the 19-20 school year.  WVU's down about 700 or so.  Not sure if that enrollment is undergrad only or grad, professional and undergrad combined.  Either way a far cry  from the 14000 plus just a few years back.  Can't sustain continued drops of that magnitude year after year, lest we are forced to scale down and become another Mountain East level school.

Article about the state enrollment notes how the amount of foreign students coming to the US in general and WV in particular is slowing down drastically.  MU's foreign students numbered 300, barely above WV State, which has 200.  With the number of high school graduates in WV constantly decreasing year after year, it doesn't take an Einstein to conclude that MU is seriously going to have to double down, and then some, on its recruiting efforts, in state, out of state, wherever.  Given the rather passive and tepid methods of student recruitment MU has generally put forth it doesn't look too encouraging in the immediate future that MU enrollment figures will turn around dramatically1

  • MU foundation and alumni have already put out the call for all to do their best to help recruit students; warning that severe cuts in programs and staff is going to have to happen if the enrollment doesn't jump up.

Although I'd love to see the school above 15,000, I'm not sure that its focus and calling shouldn't be an ever-growing high standards school of around 8,500 to 10,000 students.  Think Tulsa, or such.  The geographic platform is more like a school of that size, the facilities are as well.  Sports don't have to suffer at that stage, fans are fans.

We need to have targets of fan size of both roundball and football; let's say 25,000 for football, and a solid 6,700 to 7,200 for football. Both of those are achievable at a 9,000 student university if the school focuses its strengths on fewer things and prioritizes their efforts.

  • The Houston Baptist QB is in the transfer portal and we all know where he’s going (WKU)... he threw for more than 10,000 yards at HBU. They’re really going all in on fixing their offense.
