  • A top quality G5 program would be ok, or even a mediocre to average Power opponent wouldn't be bad either.  Beating a so-so Tennessee or Kentucky team carries some cache, years later.  Which impresses the average fan more:  we beat bad South Carolina and Clemson squads years ago, or we whipped a very good Northern Illinois team, a MAC champion, in a minor bowl years ago?

I bet that more average fans remember the wins over South Carolina and Clemson, and probably the bowl wins over BYU, Louisville, and Maryland, before the win over NIU.

  • Given everything that's going on this year and season, playing Tulsa in Birmingham isn't a bad option. Not the best, but not bad. If the team heads to Birmingham, I'd rather see them play Tennessee. The name recognition is better.

I wouldn't mind seeing Marshall play either UVA, VT or Wake in Tampa. Again, it's a Power 5 match up with teams that have better name recognition.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Marshall play Army in the Independence Bowl, but it's looking like Army will be facing a PAC 12 school in that game.

  • If you still get the extra practice, turn  down any bowl appearance. 1 person is dying every minute in this country right now.

And a person has died every day in this country forever.   Look at the statistics and the death rate per 1000 people is in line where it has been for the last 20 years and is up only 1% to last year and the overall rate is less than it has been for several years during since 2000.

That was not a bad Clemson team. They were 6-6 in the ACC. They lost by 4 to NCSt, lost to V Tech when they used to be a top dog, 3 to Georgia Tech and 3 to National Champion that year Florida St. going 6-6 in a P5 conference and losing games to those team by 3 including the National Champions is much more impressive than going 11-1 beating nobodies. South Carolina was not very good but Clemson was not a bad football team.

Those assertions have been debunked.  They started with a discussion from one researcher at Johns Hopkins, but her research has been found to be flawed.  Johns Hopkins has issued statements discussing this and how there are 300,000 more deaths than would have been expected in the US this year, and over 200,000 of those are directly attributable to COVID while the remaining could be described as indirectly attributable to COVID.

  • So Carolina lost to UGA the week before we beat them.  They then lost their next 19 games.

Still a better brand than NIU. Always has been, always will be.

  • I want Coastal. Don't care where, but McMurphy has that matchup in the Cure Bowl the day after Christmas which I think sounds great.

There are a lot of people out there, including Doc himself, who are absolutely convinced NIU was a top 25 team in 2014. In reality, they finished the season with a Sagarin around 75.

Nothing has been debunked...these are the total deaths in the US for the last 20 years, including this year per 1000 residents.  Those are facts and not an opinion piece.  It just takes who has died in the US each year no matter how old or from what and 2020’s rate is in line with any year since 2000.  Unless you are bringing people back to life from earlier years this is the death rate and how it has been calculated forever.

  • Can you guys take the Covid stuff to Tavern off the Green? There's some good discussion here and the whole thread is going to be nuked if you don't.

  • Regarding potential bowl game landing spots and opponents, GT, Virginia, BC, Pitt, and Stanford have opted out of accepting a bowl game.

Here is the most recent bowl projection from College Football News. Marshall vs San Jose State in the Gasparilla Bowl, December 26th, in Tampa. SJSU is scheduled to play Boise State this weekend for the Mountain West Championship. SJSU is currently based in Las Vegas for practice and playing "home" games. Not sure if they would want to travel all the way to Florida. Most of the projections over the past few weeks had an ACC school landing in Tampa.

Agreed.  If they can't obey the rules, the Mods should do their jobs.  Too often this stuff starts, the Mods let it go, and it gets out of hand and pollutes more and more threads.
