  • Guy has made a killin' on beating cupcakes and losing to everyone with a pulse and even some without. Luckiest son of a gun in college football. Now he gets awards for it. Insanity.

Really, why does he deserve this award? For playing an FCS schedule with an FBS team, for 1 win against a top 40 sunbelt team (which is a conference we used to make fun of but now look up to), or for getting shutout at home vs. baseball private school Rice?

I wish CUSA never broke up. Doc had the EXACT same records Snyder did until the conference was gutted. The Doc era could have been over 6 years ago. I have nothing personal against him. He has just sucked the life out of the program and has been a wvu dream since being here. I hope wvu gets a Doc one day...

I suspect they could have had anytime they wanted him, but he's still here.

  • Does this mean Auburn or another P5 will try to poach him from us? He's the winningest FBS coach in Marshall history and one of the best, if not the best coach in the country. Surely, somebody wants him. Right?

Isn’t it amazing we have been able to hold on to him this long? We must be the luckiest fans in the country.

  • Most fan bases would be glad to have their coach be named to a list like this...instead some of our fans poke fun at it.

The grass is not always greener on the other side.  Look at Tennessee as an example.  They felt the same way about Philip Fulmer and look what has happened in the last decade since he was let go.  Multiple coaches and zero success and they have plenty of money to hire whoever they want.

Is the Doc the best coach..no, but we could do way worse.  Another example would be East Carolina.  They got rid of a coach who had success in Steve Logan and have not won since.

  • You're absolutely correct. It could be worse. A lot worse. That fear is really the only thing keeping him here. Hopefully, he'll catch up to FAU in C-USA championships on Friday!

  • I appreciate his loyalty and passion for the school and program. Could we do worse, certainly. Could we do better, certainly. Maybe they should have waited until after Friday to make that announcement. This will prove his worth and that of the staff. jmo

This is exactly why we will never be nothing more than we are. We accept one championship in 11 years in the worst conference. We are AFRAID of doing better because it MAY get worse. We are afraid to get a coach that is to good because he may get us to the top of G5 and then leave. Really? That is our fears?

I'm not sure his loyalty to Marshall isn't better labeled as his frustration at the lack of the telephone ringing with offers from bigger schools.

This could actually very well be the last game for our opponent's coach before he takes the Auburn job.

We accept it in basketball.  Both coaches have very similar records and Doc has as many championships as Danny does in his first 6 years.  These 2 guys mirror each other in championships and overall records against very similarly ranked schedules.  Why in love with Danny and hate on Doc?  Because he wears a stereo casting hillbilly shirts and has funny quotes?

I like both and not partial to one sport over the other - its MU. I think Danny being more golly gee, fan friendly helps and the fact that B'ball had been less than stellar for most of the previous 20-30 years before he got here. Brings some consistency.

Doc has been loyal and been consistent but he also tends to lose games he shouldn't and only one title in 11 years, in arguably the worst D1 football league in the country - hurts his cause. He is not a dynamic personality, which to some, is a negative.
Fridays game is a classic example. To be brutally honest, I don't feel good about this game. We know their strengths and what we need to correct from Rice, but I have no confidence Doc or the staff will come up with a successful game plan. I hope he proves me dead wrong. Looking forward to the game. Go Herd!

First Danny has been here half the time of Doc. Second Danny plays an exciting brand. 3rd Danny knows how to promote and mingle with fans wanting them involved. 4th I feel like there is always a chance to win in basketball because of the style and we get better every year as the year progresses. Doc, I feel like we don’t have a chance against even the best G5 teams (see UCF and Cincy). Also Doc has 5-6 of the worst beat downs at home in stadium history.

That's just it, Doc's staunchest supporters have accepted being "mediocre in the worse" FBS conference in college football. There's no comparing the SEC with CUSA. Doc should have been dominating this conference.

  • Man just think what Doc could do if he read "Herd Fans" and got some pointers from real experts!
    Or maybe he does...?

Nah, if he did, he'd have won more games and never hired Rippon as a DC.

Maybe could have beat lowly Rice at home? Or at least not get shut out?

When someone has more negative karma points than he has posts it strikes me that he really doesn't have anything worth saying or paying attention to.

But since you're here; How many generations have the Blackhorns and Holiday clans been intermarrying?

Isn’t this Danny’s 7th year? Hard to believe.

I know.  I still look forward to seeing DD and his teams every year.  Doc's I dread.  Such a world of difference in the two.

Yes and Docs 11th. Danny also didn’t get a chance to win a conference tournament championship last year which is what counts. So Danny has been here a little more than half of Doc. All I know is I’m pumped when the basketball team takes the floor to watch the exciting style of play. Watching football is boring and conservative most times to say the least. They run over the EKUs and UMass along with the cupcakes in CUSA and then get destroyed in meaningful games like UCF or Cincy last year. Wouldnt it be nice to compete with those G5’s again?

Not even close to the same. Our football program has the best history, facilities, name recognition, and fan base in the conference. Our AD also gives way more support to our football program. In short, Doc is doing less with more.... DD is doing more with less.
