Why not then demand better from basketball? Dan has been head coach for 7 years and has the same amount of conference championships as Doc and his overall record is not any better than Docs? I have posted the stats on each last year and they pretty much mirror. That is the issue, you give a pass to Dan but crucify Doc. They have the same performance just different personalities.
Idk how many times this Dan and Doc are basically the same has to be debunked through basic logic, but I guess it needs to be done again.
Doc in 11 years is 85-52 overall (.620), 55-30 in CUSA (.641). 6-1 in Bowl Games. Tomorrow will be his third appearance in the CUSA championship game. As of now, he has 1 Title and 1 Runner-Up. He has posted three losing seasons and finished .500 or worse in CUSA play four times.
Dan in just 7 years is 117-92 overall (.560), 62-46 in CUSA (.574). With an average SOS of He has 1 conference title and 1 runner up. He has one NCAA Tourney Appearance including the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament win (Which is the equivalent of the Access Bowl in football or close). Dan also has that CIT Tournament Championship. Not that it means much but it's no different than Doc winning six bowl games no one cares about. DD has posted only 1 losing season and has finished better than .500 in CUSA in all seasons except for his first (which is also where his first losing season comes from).
So, while looking at that, some numbers look similar if not a little better for Doc. Except for the fact that DD has accomplished as much as what Doc has accomplished in nearly five (since we just started BBall) fewer seasons. Not only that, DD's peak year in 2017-2018 is a touch higher than anything Doc has delivered (2014 being Doc's peak). And DD has never had a BBall season hit as low of a low as Doc did in 2016 when even with the 121st toughest schedule in the country he managed to go 3-9.
That doesn't even mention the fact that DD and Basketball get far fewer resources to work with than Doc and Football and that CUSA is a better/tough BBall conference than it is football league. So, yes, they're basically a mirror if you throw out 100% of the context that relates to the records and achievements of each.
As for people not holding DD to the same standard as Doc I think you're wrong. Have you read the Toledo game thread? There is plenty of criticism being heaved at DD in that post. Much of it by Herdorbust, which is a guy you have repeatedly classified as a "basketball first fan" and "Doc Hater". DD doesn't get as much flack because he's done a better job than Doc to this point and sure him having a nice personality does endear him to fans a little more, I'm sure. But, his personality wouldn't matter if he was going 10-18 every year.
