  •     I have been a Herd fan since going up into my grandparents attic on Columbia Avenue when I was five years old - where it was hotter than blazes to watch Marshall at Fairfield Stadium. I am 70 now ... 65 years a Herd fan and supporter. I went to school there both undergrad and grad school - lost friends in the plane crash - met my wife there - my sons both graduated from there. I remember Sonny, Perry Moss, Richard Bestwick (almost coach), etc. . I drove to Miami for 66-6 and Pocatello for the first dome game.  I thought nothing could ever destroy my passion for Herd Football. But Doc Holliday has done it. Even in the games we win, his ineptitude stands out - like a cross between Gomer Pyle and a confused turtle walking perpetually back and forth not knowing what to do. When he was hired he told us his plan was “infallible.” He was wrong then and still is. I am just done until all vestiges of his coaching abomination are completely gone. I do not think I am alone ...

  • You most certainly are not alone.  I feel the same way, though I haven't been a fan nearly as long as you have.  Some of my greatest memories, outside of my family of course, have revolved around Marshall sports and events.  But that is fading, and Doc has killed all my enthusiasm.  It was a great run while it lasted, but we may have to accept that our glory days are behind us as the administration doesn't care to strive for excellence any longer.

    Let's Go Herd!

    Final Rankings: 1999 - #10 (AP & ESPN), #12 (BCS); 2001 - #21 (ESPN); 2002 - #24 (AP), #19 (ESPN), 2014 - #22 (coaches), #23 (AP)

    Championships: 1925 WVIAC, 1928 WVIAC, 1931 WVIAC, 1937 Buckeye Conference, 1988 Southern Conference, 1992 I-AA, 1994 Southern Conference, 1996 Southern Conference, 1996 I-AA (15-0), 1997 MAC, 1998 MAC, 1998 Motor City, 1999 MAC (13-0), 1999 Motor City, 2000 MAC, 2000 Motor City, 2001 GMAC, 2002 MAC, 2002 GMAC, 2009 Pizza Bowl, 2011 Beef O Brady Bowl, 2013 Military Bowl, 2014 Boca Raton Bowl, 2015 St. Petersburg Bowl, 2017 New Mexico Bowl, 2018 Gasparilla Bowl.

This is what is really sad. I think our greatest days are behind us. We will never be great as long as Hamrick is here imo. I’m glad I have the memories of Chad, Byron, Moss, Troy etc,,,, great high powered offenses that could shred defenses and bring fans out of their seats with passion. Cheering for a team you really believed could win any game no matter the opponent. Hamrick and Doc have almost destroyed the entire fanbase. It is a shame what they have been allowed to do to Marshall football. I used to love it and loved going to away games like Miami oh and North Carolina etc,,, what great times those days were. And they may be gone forever.

  • Gave up my chairback seats and cut my Big Green donation in half (still have basketball seats) five years ago. What is sad is I had those seats since 1997 and some of my greatest memories were going on road trips with my parents as a kid to watch Marshall FOOTBALL despite the fact we would get our A$$ handed to us by Furman, William & Mary. etc....

And before somebody calls me a bad fan,,,, it is a two way street, the administration has to act like the care and appreciate your donation. The fact that nobody inquired about why I did this and another incident I had showed me that wasn't the case.

  • I stopped giving last year.  Kept season tickets but those will be let go next year.

Some of the brass have tried to alienate us but those posts have since been deleted.  Seven wins questioning where the Doc haters were followed by two of the worst consecutive games in Herd history.

This is it for me....good luck to those hanging around.
