  • 1983 was the last of 18 straight losing seasons.  We just beat VMI 56-7 to end the year and some people thought that there was "hope" for things to come.  But Lynn Snyder had the good sense to finally let Sonny Randall go at the end of the season, if he wouldn't have done so it would have been the end of Marshall's football program.  Will Hamrick have the same good sense?
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

  • No contract extension to this point is telling; maybe of a couple things.
    1.  No forthcoming, which it appears would reengage a lot of fans (I hope they mean it when they say it)
    2.  They have been waiting to see the value necessary to make it happen.

In my business, I have a protocol  for Re Staging businesses; IMHO, that is what is needed with Marshall Athletics in general, and specifically with the football program.

If Hamrick does it won’t be because he thinks it’s best for the program. He will do it because he has no choice. Then most likely he will just slide Lambert in there and tell us what a great coach he just hired and fans will be giddy and fall in line. Actually the fans blind loyalty of Marshall is actually killing what we once loved. If we hire the wrong guy then we are at least another 5 years away. One conference championship in the last 20 years. I remember when Huck left in 88, I never dreamed Basketball would be so bad for so long. Now here we are in football. Yes 2014 was one year but before that Docs defense was pathetic. Then lately his defense has become decent and even good against the weak competition but the offense the last few years are horrible. Docs teams don’t even come close to the Pruett or Donnan teams.

Sonny was a better coach than Doc and at least those kids cared. What an embarrassment this staff and program have become.

By no means was my post a crack on Sonny.  Sonny never had the resources to go get what he needed back then.  But his lack of success eventually led to the fan base tuning out even though his teams were ready to turn the corner and did the next year.

Put it this way:  It would be an easier decision to keep Sonny in that situation than to keep Doc in this one but our athletic administration either lacks brains or nuts or both.

  • IMHO, unless Doc retires, Lambert has not chance at being our head coach.  If, on the other hand, his contract is just not renewed, Lambert and the whole staff are gone too.

  • New HC can retain who they want.  JC Price is the best coach on the staff.
