  • I’ll start it off and throw out the name of Art Briles. I’m sure he’s looking to get back to being a head coach. He is what made the offense go at FAU in Lane Kiffen’s first year, or was that his son?

What names do you all have? We know people read the board. Let’s give them some names to consider.

  • Briles is rumored for the Texas job. I would take Tom Herman, Lovie Smith is out of work, and on a way out there pick would be Rashad Jackson.

  • Successful FCS HC who is an offensive guru. That’s the man we need.

No old retreads. G5 or P5 coach with extensive and proven offensive success

  • Love the Briles idea...similar to the Hugh Freeze success at Liberty.   Guarantee we win the conference next year if he was hired.

Huge PR mistake if we stay in house and go with Lambert.  Need fresh blood.

  • I have no idea if he ever wants to coach at the collegiate level, but if the first call isn’t to Pennington, it’s not a real search.  He’s a leader, a winner and loves Marshall.  And can you imagine the staff he could assemble?  Instant name recognition in households for recruiting and immediately energizes the fan base.

  • Buffalo and Ball State coaches make about a 1/2 million.  This would be a raise.  I think Pennington would love the 1 million a year gig.  I think the Concord coach Walker is big upgrade over what we have now.

  • Prefer a lower division coach with multiple years success at more than one previous school.

Could accept Chad, doubt it would happen.

Absolutely no retreads from Power 5 schools or anyone currently on the Herd staff.

We don’t need a name, we need a resume.

    We need a total redo.

For what it's worth Herman is staying at Texas & after the Baylor nightmare I don't see Texas hiring him anyhow...jmo...I think Briles would be a good one especially for 1 Mil a year

  • The dream would be Byron Leftwich but we could never afford him.

If they hire Lambert it's a sign they are lazy and unserious.
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

  • We need a head coach who is not afraid to go for it when our Herd is facing 4rh and less than a yard, around your own 37 yard line and needs to build offensive momentum, in a championship, or non-championship, game!

  • No - this is the final year of Doc's current contract.  The contract ends June 30th - like all State employees.

Now is the time to replace Doc without having to incur a buyout - only the remaining 6 months on this contract and the remaining of the contracts on the assistants that are released with Doc.

100% ...... with a struggling offense needing a spark.  Instead didn't even try to draw them offsides.  The announcer even commented on that play.  There were no kind words for Herd Football coaches from Aaron Taylor.  He found out what most already knew.  Pitiful gaming and prep against teams with a pulse always.

  • A coach who does NOT think EVERY offensive play should be out of a read option set!!

Our offense was much more creative under Pruett's pro-style attack.

My preference would be to pick a young I-AA coach who is on the rise.  I agree with several others that a P5 retread is not the way to go.

I'd also be happy if we picked a young G5 or P5 Offensive Coordinator.  I DO NOT want a defensive specialist.  Snyder and Doc killed that option for me.

A head coach who is a creative mind on O (and good on D) with proven results in FCS or a school below us in FBS.

If Hamrick brings Doc back (before the season Doc was gone unless he won the conference or went undefeated), he should be fired immediately for killing Herd football.

    Go Herd!

  • I think you ask Chad and Byron both. All they can say is no. Then you move on and form a search committee. Agree no retreads unless they are proven with some bumps along the way Like a Briles or Freeze type. Otherwise go get the best recruiter offensive mind you can find that is young, full of energy and hungry to make a name for himself.
