Has something to do with our passing schemes/patterns IMO.
The long TD pass to Gaines straight down the field how often did we throw those kinds of passes ALL NIGHT? Why do we roll Wells out so much on pass plays? Does he not feel comfortable throwing out of the pocket? Is he less effective throwing from the pocket? Or is our senior laden, veteran O line really not that competent in pass protection on pass plays from the pocket? To be honest, our great O line couldn't have possibly graded out that well OVERALL against Both Rice and UAB!! IMO, the line was dominated by UAB's defensive front a good portion of the Championship game!!
Why don't we throw more quick slants and seam routes, making defenses guard/defend the entire field when we pass instead of having to defend 25-35% of it on most of our pass plays? And we also have to ask just how much separation did our wide outs get on most of our pass plays last night? Seems like on many of our pass plays the Blazers had 2 or 3 defenders right on our receivers, or closely in the vicinity. Also quite evident, too, that UAB's D backs have been well schooled and taught how to play the ball and make plays on the itself. Which is something for years under Doc, and numerous D Back Coaches, our defensive backs have obviously never been instructed or taught how to do!!
