  • UNC Ashville are 3-3.  Currently with few games completed they are in a 3-way tie for 1st place.  They were picked preseason 2nd in Big South.  Last year they went 15-16 (5-10 away).
OT win over High Point.  Losses: to Chattanooga by 3; to Western Carolina in OT; to UNC Wilmington.
Balanced scoring, only one stands out a little.  not a big team overall, maybe more guard oriented??  They shoot 56% free throws, so it's OK to foul  ;D  16-17 TOs per game.

TV: almost all of their games on ESPN+, one on ESPNU and 3 on their local, The CW62.  Their games are more consistently available for their fans to view than are ours.

Although we know how BB can go, this should be a definite win, dare I say- especially at home?

  • We should win this game.  I am hopeful we have learned from the Toledo loss and it will make us better as the year goes on.

  • Marshall is a double digit favorite (last line I saw was 13) and I would be willing to lay the points.  This might be a close game for a bit but I expect to see Marshall distance themselves as the game goes on and win this one by 20 or more.

  • Not that it matters that much, but last I looked Chattanooga was unbeaten and something like 7-0 and Western Carolina, another SO CON team, was having a pretty solid season also.

  • I hope Tolsia High grad and Wayne County native Coty Jude goes for 40 tonight. But, I hope the Bulldogs lose by 20+

Under the radar local kid that has had some success with the Bulldogs. Hope he performs well tonight, but not well enough to beat Marshall.

  • Speaking of WCU, when we are in the market for a basketball coach I hope we give Prosser a look, up and coming young coach with good bloodlines.

Overall, the SO CON could be a pretty good, decent Mid Major league this year.  Defending champs ETSU off to a rather slow start under a new coach; Furman still pretty good as they annually are; Western Carolina and UTC look pretty formidable so there should be a good league race in the HERD's old home,

Yes, he has. Will finish his career as a 1000 point scorer most likely and a great kid. I teach at Tolsia and help out with the boys basketball team (wasn't there when Jude played) and he is a great ambassador of our program comes back and works with the kids any time he can.

Some great memories of playing those teams

I share the sentiment but he’s not a Tolsia grad, or at least he played his senior season at Believe Academy in Athens, Tennessee.

I should probably defer to Herdalum83, but I’m almost certain he did graduate from Tolsia and believe academy was a one year prep school after high school. Either way I have to ask, what does it matter?

I’m originally from Tolsia and had seen that kid play a lot. I tried to tell Danny and Klein about him, but they didn’t seem very interested. I knew with his size and they way he could shoot the 3 that he could play for MU. He’s a lot better than some of the projects on bench. His senior year in the sectional game both Jude and the kid from St Joe who walked on at MU put on a clinic. Im thinking one of them went for 58 and one for 51 that night.

He didn’t play his senior year at Tolsia. He played it at Believe Academy.

It matters only because he’s literally not a Tolsia grad I don’t think (unless he went back home after basketball season, which is possible).

No, he graduated from Tolsia High School. His year there was a Post Grad year.

He literally did graduate from Tolsia. I can get you the picture of him in his cap and gown if you want. His year in TN was as a post grad.

  • And here is an article talking about him signing to play at Believe Prep. https://www.thelevisalazer.com/2017/05/16/tolsia-basketball-star-coty-jude-is-ready-for-next-step-2/

The article talks about how he played all 4 years of HS at Tolsia.

    Tolsia Senior Coty Jude

“… The last four years have flown by, I have some great memories of being a Tolsia Rebel and wouldn’t change those for anything. Didn’t have the postseason success we had hoped for but Single A in West Virginia is very good, our section with Tug Valley and Huntington St. Joe was tough to navigate.” Going into St. Joe I was stressed but also pumped up and ready to get going knowing it could be my last game. We laid it all on the line but came up a little short.”

Dantoni was very complimentary of Coty in the pregame and said he was a kid they were interested in but they were down to one scholarship and felt they already had Jannson and Beyers in the same position and needed to get another guard but that he was happy to see Coty in D1 and having a nice career.

  • You can always use more than 2 post players. Look at the dead weight on the bench.

Not disagreeing just repeating what DD said was his reasoning for using his last scholarship on Dillion as opposed to Jude. Obviously, I think Jude would have been better and I would have LOVED to have got to see him in Green and White. But, DD had lots of nice stuff to say about him. Which I thought was classy out of coach.

You are absolutely right and I apologize for my confusion!   I don’t know where I got that from. Regardless, good kid, good player!

  • Yes it was. I heard what DD had to say. Everyone had Dillon built up, but he’ll never play much here. He’s not the only dead weight on the bench. We have way to many projects.

Agreed. And it's worked out well for Coty.

    And no worries, Thunderingherdfan.
